MY THOUGHTS:

I WON’T TAKE THE MARK: A Bible Book and Contract for Children. HELPING CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THE BOOK OF REVELATION by KATHERINE ALBRECHT, EdD, Nurtured by Tiffany Daschke & Katina Michael, PhD is a wonderful Juvenile Nonfiction/Religion/Bible Stories/New Testament. What a wonderful and amazing book. It will help your little one understand the Book of Revelation. Outstanding in more ways than one. The illustrations are artful, vivid and descriptive in and of themselves. It is well written, easy to follow with corresponding scriptures, which help convey the warnings of John’s vision, in the Book of Revelation. It will help guide young readers to the teachings of Jesus. A wonderful book for a Children’s bible study group.

What a wonderful way to “nurture” your children, with the teaching from the New Testament. It book also “includes a frameable certificate with a vow to obey God and never take the mark of the beast.”

This book is a MUST have for any library, not just a Children’s library. I was thrilled with the knowledge I personally gained from the book. I absolutely love this book from beginning to end. Well done!!

How fortunate we are that Caroline decided to retrieve The Dance of the Caterpillars from its 1980’s hiding place in the filing cabinet. How grateful we are that Fisher called to her. How thankful we are that we are able to receive the message of hope across the decades from this very special fourth-grader in our world of increasing disconnectedness from ourselves and each other and from our rightful place in the natural world. Fisher reminds us there is some Fisher in all of us: a longing to belong. The Dance takes me to the space between The Wizard of Oz and Where the Wild Things Are, a step closer to the journey home, the journey to the undivided life. Fisher makes me think of a slightly older version of Max from Wild Things, growing up in a deforming world, yet still able to hold onto to that birthright ability to see, to hear, to connect. Fisher reminds me that I still have that birthright, too, and it’s not too late for me to notice and nurture the magic and the mystery, inside and out. Fisher’s voice reads like poetry, and I find myself letting go of learned restraints as I get caught up in The Dance. Caroline writes of The Dance that it is her sweetest of her books… This one will be cherished by readers of all ages.

The Dance of the Caterpillars ~ In a Time Before Texting.

MY THOUGHTS:

THE DANCE OF THE CATERPILLARS- IN THE TIME BEFORE TEXTING by Caroline S. Fairless is an interesting Children’s Book/Family/Religious Fiction/Science/Eco-System. A cherish tale for all ages. Fisher will steal your heart. A longing to belong, Fisher, a fourth grader,  reminds us all, that there was a time of magic, before testing, imagination, and a time long before testing where people talked face to face with each other. A magical and interesting read, where nature pulls, Fisher, outside. Caterpillars turns into something beautiful. Fisher, reminds us, we are looking to belong in a world of disconnections and modern technology. Eco-friendly, and filled with nature, you will enjoy your walk through Fisher’s imagination.

The author retrieved this story from her basement and decided to finally published Fisher’s tale of the “Dance of the Caterpillars”.

Well written with wonderful illustrations. Fisher, is likeable, and filled with imagination. I enjoyed this tale!

“I can’t speak highly enough about the way this book addresses manhood in our culture. Biblically challenging and radically applicable, it honestly addresses the deepest longings and fears a man faces.”   —Matt Chandler

Prepare for a paradigm-shifting view of biblical manhood.

Every man wants to succeed. But for so many, life seems to get in the way. We all have friends—good men, followers of Christ even—who start out well but before long, they’re failing at relationships, bending ethical standards, or driving themselves so hard at work they’re losing the hearts of their wife and kids.

In The Real Win, Colt McCoy and Matt Carter wrestle deeply and personally with this challenge, then deliver down-to-earth, biblical answers. Based on their personal experiences and a close study of Scripture, McCoy and Carter show men:

• Why so much depends on who you trust and who you serve
• Why every man is called to lead and why every man can
• How to man up to temptation—and conquer it
• How to fi nd the “win” even in your biggest failure

“The real win means trusting the Lord and walking with Jesus no matter what,” write Matt and Colt. “That kind of faithfulness is possible for any man who follows God with all his heart. No matter what circumstances threaten him, a faithful man is the most truly confi dent man in the room.”

Complete with practical study guide for personal or small group use.

MY THOUGHTS:

THE REAL WIN: A MAN’S QUEST FOR AUTHENTIC SUCCESS by Colt McCoy and Matt Carter is a non-fiction/Christian living.  What do you get when you combine quarterback legend, Colt McCoy and mega-church pastor,Matt  Carter? A mega book written from personal experiences, their struggles, their triumphs, using principles from scriptures. This book is written for men,but being a woman,a non-sports fan and a reviewer I found this a very well written book. Rather you are male,female,well-known or not so well-known we all need faith and trust. It has a great bible study guide at the back to use with a small study group. A great addition to any library, rather it be personal or church library. Great for young men to start quest for authentic success. Received for an honest review from the publisher.

November 28, 2011
How could a church culture that lifted high the name of Jesus make covenant with the Confederacy? How did the Southern Baptist Convention lead the way? How do divided hearts and unholy covenants still hinder awakening in the conservative US church culture? What dramatic changes will a spirit of grace and supplication bring? We Confess! The Civil War, the South, and the Church uncovers the answers, historically and biblically. God is revealing what we haven’t wanted to see, so we can become who we truly are. He promises to cleanse us from bloodguilt not yet cleansed, as we say what we haven’t dared say. As we confess, healing, life, oneness, witness and true worship flow. As we confess, our Lord is honored and his kingdom furthered. So why don’t we, who most tend to gravitate to the word ‘celebrate’ when talking of the Civil War, instead throw all caution to the wind-and confess? Honest, compelling, courageous, redemptive, this remarkable look at the conservative church culture rooted in the Deep South explores such topics as king cotton and mighty oaks; the fast God has chosen; spiritual bulimia; spiritual schizophrenia; blood covenant; cleansing from bloodguilt; an undivided heart.

MY THOUGHTS:

WE CONFESS! THE CIVIL WAR,THE SOUTH AND THE CHURCH by Debora Brunt is an interesting Religion/Biblical Study. What an interesting book on the South. It takes a look at the conservative church culture in the South. It explores topics on the blood covenant, cotton, oaks,it answers questions historically, biblically and spiritually. A powerful and compelling read. Written with courage. What an informative story filled with knowledge and the bloodshed of the Civil War. If you enjoy history and religion you will enjoy “We Confess!”,I did. Received for an honest review from the author.

Book Description (from Amazon)

Publication Date: July 16, 2012
This is a Christian book that looks deeply into the causes of adversity in life, and hence, the resulting painful experience. It analyzes proposed solutions from differing points of view – Atheists, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and Muslims. It contains practical examples of people who have gone through various adversities in life. Their experiences say it all! The book also gives insight to living a victorious Christian life despite uphill and daily battles. It literally demonstrates how to deal with adversities, or “ride the storm” when it shows up. The back cover of the book summarizes it all: “…Be vigilant and careful as to what comes from your mouth, whether to curse or to bless. Do not be involved in profane words again for whatever comes out of your mouth, goes out with power. Above all, be confident in God’s reward for your faithfulness in serving Him, is Peace. This is the peace, as promised by the Lord Jesus Christ, for doing His bidding. Your state of peace is a measure (like a thermometer to body temperature) of your relationship with God. When one is making a decision in a situation, and you experience a lack of peace, then; turn away from that decision. Be truthful in all your dealings and evaluate your daily walk with the truth that is established in God’s Holy book, the Bible and through the Holy Spirit in you. Acknowledge God in all your ways, seek Him while He may be found, and call on Him while he is near. It is not just good enough to know God, but to know His will and follow it. Remind yourself of the promise of God in Zechariah 10:11, “They will pass through the sea of TROUBLE; the surging sea will be subdued…” At the right time, even, when you are not looking or expecting, the storm will become a gentle whisper of adoration…”
MY THOUGHTS:
RIDING THE STORM OF LIFE BY DAVID SHOYOMBO is an interesting christian living/Religion & Spirituality book. Full of scripture, references and insight into your faith. It dives into the causes of adversity in life, painful experienceS,God’s promises, faith, and various points of view of life’s situations. At this time of turmoil in America this is a book that will comfort as well as inspire you. It tells us to remind ourselves of God’s love, and his promises. We will pass through this storm with his grace and love. A must for any christian or anyone who inspires to learn more of “Riding the Storm of Life”. Book Description(from Amazon)

Publication Date: August 28, 2012
After the destruction of the first temple in Jerusalem, the Jews were exiled to Babylon. Not only was there no longer a physical place to pray, even the sacred Scriptures were becoming scarce. Many of the biblical scrolls were lost or destroyed during the exile. In an attempt to preserve the Scriptures, the Rabbis divided up the biblical texts into weekly reading portions and distributed them among the families of Israel. Each was responsible for memorizing their assigned passage and then reading it in the synagogue every Sabbath. This system of reading is the basis for the story found in Luke 4:16-17: “He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him.”

This system is still in use today by Jews all over the world. In WHAT WOULD JESUS READ?, Joe Amaral gives modern day Christians the opportunity to follow and practice the same devotional system that Jesus used!

MY THOUGHTS:
WHAT WOULD JESUS READ? DAILY DEVOTIONS THAT GUIDED THE SAVIOR by Joe Amaral is a religion/devotional. This book is written”dedicated to the Jewish people” and the preserving of the teachings of the Torah. It gives the Christian faith insight into the Jewish roots with 54 weekly readings with a anual total of 378 daily readings. A book that answers the question “What would Jesus read”. A devotional system for modern day Christians featuring old testament scriptures. “This system is still in use today by Jews all over the world.” While,it may not be for everyone, I enjoyed the interesting contrast between the Jewish and Christian faiths.
