Book Description Courtesy of Amazon:

As Nurse Edie Spence embarks on her latest supernatural adventure from Cassie Alexander, the perils of the deep threaten to pull her under…

Edie Spence is in desperate need of a vacation—some R&R away from the craziness that shadows her as a nurse dealing with paranormal patients. But as she and her shapeshifter boyfriend, Asher, set sail on a cruise for Hawaii, they’ll realize that seasickness isn’t the only thing threatening their romantic getaway….

While on board, Asher comes face-to-face with Nathaniel, an old nemesis from his dark past. Asher is convinced he’s up to no good…especially when passengers start to come down with a mysterious illness unlike anything Edie and Asher have ever encountered. Soon Edie finds herself fighting for the life of the one person who means the most to her—Asher. As chaos explodes, will Edie be able to save their future together…or will this close encounter with the paranormal side be her last?

My Thoughts:

It was a little slow to get into for me, mainly because I don’t have the back-story from the first 3 books. However, the author did do a good job explaining some of the characters’ history and easily caught me up enough to enjoy the majority of the book. There isn’t a lot of deep thought to this one. It is a typical paranormal romance, with a lot of variety in its paranormal cast. I did like that there was more adventure and intrigue mixed in to prevent it from being just a romance.

Edie’s character was a little hard for me to connect with, though it’s kind of hard for me to pinpoint why. She seemed to be stuck in her own thoughts a lot. Although, to her credit, she did have quite a lot to think about regarding recent events that led up to this book and some issues that happened pretty rapidly early on. It was also kind of hard to connect with Asher, because you don’t get any of the story from his POV (if I’m remembering correctly). I like romances that go back and forth between the two main characters, and this book doesn’t do that much, if at all.  I did enjoy the book, and if you read the series, I’m sure you will like it even more. I gave it a three simply because I don’t see myself looking for the others in the series. I’ve met these characters and enjoyed this story of this particular point in their lives, but I don’t have the pull to learn any more about them.

Review~ Autumn Rose by Abigail Gibbs

Title: Autumn Rose

Series: A Dark Heroine Novel #2

Author: Abigail Gibbs

Website: http://www.wattpad.com/user/Canse12

Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks

Publication Date: January 28, 2014

ISBN-10: 0062248758

ISBN-13: 978-0062248756

Genre: Paranormal

Source: Received for an honest review.

Book Description Courtesy of Amazon:

Autumn Rose has the chance to save the world she loves. But how much will she have to sacrifice?

Autumn Rose lives in a sleepy seaside town, but buried deep under the surface of her quiet life are dark secrets. Her grandmother is dead, murdered eighteen months ago, and the vibrant London social scene in which she was brought up is a world away. Even worse, at her new school she is shunned and condemned––all because of the swirling marks on her skin that prevent her from blending in with the crowd.

Then the appearance at her school of a handsome young man—who has the same curious markings as Autumn—sends her world into turmoil. Suddenly the marks are deemed cool, and Autumn is thrust into the limelight. But her sudden popularity brings danger as her secrets threaten to come to light. And then there are her recurring dreams about a girl who is about to be seduced by a very dark prince . . . and Autumn must figure out how to save her before it is too late.

My Thoughts:

I’m not sure the author got the order right on this book and the first. The timing between the two novels just doesn’t flow well. It’s almost like she had Autumns’ character present herself somewhere in the process of writing Book 1 and instead of starting Autumn’s story (Book 2) where the character comes into play from Book 1, she started way earlier to try and fill in the gaps. The overlap in timelines kind of throws the reader off at first. I honestly wish I had read Autumn’s story first because she and Fallon were much more likeable and easier to connect with; not to mention her backstory is much more interesting. I got really tired of the couple from Book 1 and their dynamics. Hell, I got tired of the whole cast and characters from Book 1, minus one or two.  It didn’t get really interesting until they met up with Autumn and Fallon near the end and all the fun stuff happened.

All that being said, the entire premise of the story with the Dark Heroines being the ultimate saviors of the paranormal worlds/dimensions is pretty dang creative and unique. Now that I’ve gotten through these two, and I have the overall foundation of the series, I hope to thoroughly enjoy the remaining books.

Review~ Dark Wolf by Christine Feehan

Title: Dark Wolf

Series: Dark Series #25 overall (#2 in mini-trilogy of Dark Lycan, Dark Wolf, and Dark Blood)

Author: Christine Feehan

Website: http://www.christinefeehan.com

Publisher: Berkley

Publication Date: January 7, 2014

ISBN-10: 0425270793

ISBN-13: 978-0425270790

Genre: Paranormal

Source: Received for an honest review.

Book Description Courtesy of Amazon:

In Dark Lycan, Christine Feehan journeyed into the heart of the Carpathians, and into the souls of two lifemates stirred by the flush of passion and the threat of annihilation. In Dark Wolf, the breathtaking story continues as the bonds of family are imperiled, and the fate of two lovers lies hidden in the seductive shadows between life and death.

Skyler Daratrazanoff always recognized the miracle that was Dimitri Tirunul, a man beyond any dream that had ever engaged her nights. But she was human. Vulnerable. He was Carpathian. Nearly immortal. She was nineteen. He was an ancient. Yet she held half his soul, the light to his darkness. Without her, he would not survive. Caught between the two warring species, Dimitri has spent centuries hunting the undead to keep his people free, and humans safe. He had survived honorably when others had chosen to give up their souls. But now, marked for extermination by the Lycans, Dimitri found himself alone, and fearing for his life. But salvation was coming…

No Lycan would ever suspect someone like Skyler to dare mount a secret rescue operation. A teenage girl. A human of untested abilities. But she had something no one else had. She was predestined for Dimitri—as he was for her. And there was nothing stronger for Skyler than her desire to see her life-dream come true. Whatever the risk.

My Thoughts:

This book has been 12 years in the making. Readers of the Dark Series were first introduced to Skylar in Dark Legend (2002), as the adopted daughter of Gabriel and Fransesca Daratrazanoff. In Dark Celebration (2006), we met Dimitri, and learned that they were lifemates. Since then, there have been a few mentions here and there of Dimitri’s constant struggle to allow Skylar time to mature and become ready for his claim as lifemate. Due to the build-up and practiced patience in waiting for this book, I was a little worried it wouldn’t live up to the hope and hype I had placed in their story.

I should have known better.

Feehan has more than delivered her signature angst, and desire, and sizzling romance between these two characters. After 25 books, the romantic element can get difficult to reimagine. How many different scenarios can you really write about a 500-2000 year old Carpathian male who has no feelings or colors, and has almost succumbed to his Vampiric nature, and a 19-30 year old psychic female, who is his one true mate, and must relegate herself to that fact. Yes, that is a gross over-simplification of the dynamics in Feehan’s stories, but the fact remains that after 25 books, it gets hard to come up with something new. But she did, and she did it wonderfully. Though not quite my favorite (that honor belongs to Ivory and Razvan in Dark Slayer), it probably rates 2nd or 3rd.

Skylar is a force to be reckoned with, due both to her combined lineage, and now claiming and conversion by Dimitri. The overall backstory that permeates the entire series (the decimation of the Carpathian species by the evil mage, Xavier) is coming to a head, and Skylar, along with her aunts, Tatiana, Branislava, Ivory and Natalya, will be in the center of it. Suffice it to say, it should be epic.

Genre: Historical Paranormal Historical(Tudor)

Series: Highland Hearts novel #2

Source: Received for an honest review from the publisher.

*Publisher*

Growing up on a pirate ship, every day was full of adventure for Pandora Wyatt. It was also the perfect place for her to use her magic without persecution. But after her surrogate father is imprisoned in the Tower of London, Pandora leaves the safety of the vessel to rescue him before he’s executed. She expects her mission to be difficult, but what she doesn’t expect is to have her life saved by the sexiest man she’s ever met.

Highland warrior Ewan Brody always wanted a sweet, uncomplicated woman by his side, but he can’t fight his attraction to the beautiful enchantress who’s stumbled into his life. He quickly learns, though, that Pandora is not only a witch, but also a pirate and possibly a traitor’s daughter—and though she’s tricked him into playing her husband at King Henry’s court, he’s falling hard.

Soon, they begin to discover dark secrets leading to the real traitor of the Tudor court, the one Ewan was hired to capture. Now, Ewan and Pandora must uncover the truth before they lose more than just their hearts.

MY THOUGHTS:

TANGLED HEARTS by Heather McCollum is an exciting Historical Paranormal Romance set in 1517 England & Scotland. The Tudor era. #2 in “A Highland Heart novel”, but can be read as a stand alone. Has just the right amount of suspense, passion and romance.  Filled with treason, betrayal, a traitor or two, Scottish Highlanders, High Sea adventure, passion, a witch, a bit of magic, deceit, a bit of trouble, lots of danger and love. What a cast of characters, King Henry VIII, Jane Seymour and Ann Bolyn just to name a few.  The Tudor era at it’s worst or best. Meet, Ewan Brody, a Highland warrior and Pandora Wyatt,a witch among other things. Follow them on an adventure of passion andlove. It’s not just about the magic but its about the  story of two people, the magic of love, the Tudor dynasty and what a story. I would highly recommend “Tangled Hearts” especially if you enjoy high adventure, highlanders, magic, the Tudor era, and the magic of love. A must read! ~Review~ Immortally Ever After by Angie Fox

Title: Immortally Ever After (Monster MASH Book 3)

Author: Angie Fox

Publication Date: August 27, 2013

ISBN-10: 0312546688

ISBN-13: 978-0312546687

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Source: Received for an honest review from the publisher.

Book Description Courtesy of Amazon:

The hard-won cease-fire between the battling immortals doesn’t last long. In the blink of an eye, human surgeon Dr. Petra Robichaud is back on the frontlines, and starring in yet another of the oracle’s prophesies. As the only healer who can talk to the dead, Petra doesn’t have much choice about her role—even when her breathtaking ex-lover shows up at exactly the wrong time…

Petra may have moved on when Commander Galen left her, but she never forgot him—and the passionate moments they shared. Seeing him again is a distraction she really doesn’t need with both armies honing new weapons, and wounded all over her M*A*S*H unit. But how can she resist him? It’s now or never for the demi-god Galen to become Petra’s mate…but with the fate of humanity at stake, will their desire be worth the cost?

My Thoughts:

Petra and Galen are a steamy duo that will leave you sizzling!  This book is the conclusion of a series that combines paranormal romance with a unique twist to an old favorite- the 70’s hit TV show- M*A*S*H.  Drawn into a war between the new gods and the old, Petra has been serving as a triage surgeon in her own MASH unit for the last few years. Galen is the gorgeous and sexy demi-god super soldier who discovered her secret (she can see spirits) when she saved his life in Book 1.  Together they must work to fulfill the Oracle’s multiple prophecies concerning Petra and the things she must do to ensure the war will eventually end.  Complete with similar hijinks and antics as the TV favorite, this series is a good combination of humor and “romance.”

Having left Petra in Book 2, Galen’s surprise appearance with a sexy, scantily clad, and —dying– Were-Dragon, throws Petra into a tailspin from the get-go. The fact that he’s in pretty bad shape himself doesn’t help her sanity either. After overcoming that hurtle, well…. they just keep coming…. this is a war, after all.

Though their relationship has proven to be a rocky one, it seems like they may finally settle down once they make it through the most recent prophecy.  Their chemistry is explosive, and the author’s imagery will make you feel so hot and bothered, you’ll wish you were right in the war trenches with them! Exceptional conclusion to a unique and fun series!

Can the magic of desire defeat the powers of darkness?

Forced by her half brother to use her dark gift of necromancy for profit, lovely Callista Hawthorne is determined to flee to her one chance for safety, her aunt in Scotland. With no hope of success unless she finds help on the long road north, she offers cursed shapechanger David St. Leger an irresistible bargain.

Drawn together by danger, David and Callista find passion in each other’s arms. But can they forswear the centuries of enmity separating their two races, and find a love they dare not even imagine?

MY THOUGHTS:

SHADOW’S CURSE by Alexa Egan is an intriguing Paranormal Romance set during the Regency England era,1817. #2 in the “Imnada Brotherhood”, but can be read as a stand alone. See, “Demon’s Curse”, although, I would suggest reading this first, just for background information. Callista Hawthorne, necromancer, gifted so by the Fey blood on her maternal side.  And  David St. Leger is an Imnada exile, a shapechanger, who shifts into a wolf, he suffers from a curse and its deadly palliative and plagues the streets of London. He is captured by Victor Corey, who Callista has been promised to by her dreadful brother, Branston for his ill gain. Together David and Callista must face their worst fears. Callista offers David a proposal he can’t refuse if he wishes to escape Mr. Corey. But agreeing to her terms forces him into the treacherous world of the half-Fey,his clans sworn enemy. Danger and passion drawn them together, but can they bring the two foes together with their love for each other? Their life blood, and  their love for each other could just be the one thing both clans is searching for….

Fast paced and adventure filled. With danger, destiny, a curse, and the power of true love. If you enjoy Paranormal romance than I would suggest you pick up “Shadow’s Curse”. Well written, with engaging and sometimes charming characters. The storyline is interesting as well as intriguing. Received for an honest review from the publisher.
