April 14, 1865. A famous actor pulls a trigger in the presidential balcony, leaps to the stage and escapes, as the president lies fatally wounded. In the panic that follows, forty-six terrified people scatter in and around Ford’s Theater as soldiers take up stations by the doors and the audience surges into the streets chanting, “Burn the place down!”

This is the untold story of Lincoln’s assassination: the forty-six stage hands, actors, and theater workers on hand for the bewildering events in the theater that night, and what each of them witnessed in the chaos-streaked hours before John Wilkes Booth was discovered to be the culprit. In Backstage at the Lincoln Assassination, historian Thomas A. Bogar delves into previously unpublished sources to tell the story of Lincoln’s assassination from behind the curtain, and the tale is shocking. Police rounded up and arrested dozens of innocent people, wasting time that allowed the real culprit to get further away. Some closely connected to John Wilkes Booth were not even questioned, while innocent witnesses were relentlessly pursued. Booth was more connected with the production than you might have known—learn how he knew each member of the cast and crew, which was a hotbed of secessionist resentment. Backstage at the Lincoln Assassination also tells the story of what happened to each of these witnesses to history, after the investigation was over—how each one lived their lives after seeing one of America’s greatest presidents shot dead without warning.

Backstage at the Lincoln Assassination is an exquisitely detailed look at this famous event from an entirely new angle. It is must reading for anyone fascinated with the saga of Lincoln’s life and the Civil War era.

MY THOUGHTS:

BACKSTAGE AT THE LINCOLN ASSASSINATION: THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE ACTORS AND STAGEHANDS AT FORD’S THEATRE by Thomas A. Bogar is an interesting History set during the Civil War era. April 14,1865 was the date the “shot was heard around the theate”. This is the date President Abraham Lincoln was fatally shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theatre. This is the untold story….

This is the day lives where changed forever, both on stage and off. A true-life thriller. Mr. Bogar shines the light on many questions about this date, April 14. With his research Mr. Bogar has stunning details involving more that Booth’s involvement in the assassination, there where more than a few suspects both inside and outside the Ford Theatre on  that fateful day in history.

There have been many books written on this topic, but few if any written on the actors, and stagehands who where present at Ford’s Theatre.  I was held spell-bound with this knowledge, the facts, and the historical research in writing such an undertaking. Well done! I would highly suggest this title, if your are a history buff, enjoy Civial War history, and/or the history of the assassination of President Lincoln. A new and fresh look at the “shot heard around the theatre”. Received for an honest review from the publisher.

General Henry Harley “Hap” Arnold is widely considered the father of the United States Air Force. But his long list of accomplishments doesn’t begin or end there. He was also the first and only five-star general of the US Air Force; one of the first US military aviators; the first American to carry air mail; and the architect of the war-winning air strategy of World War II.

In this new biography of one of the American military’s most towering figures, author Bill Yenne weaves the story of Hap Arnold’s life, from his youthful days as a cunning prankster to his sunset career as an elder statesman. All along, Yenne unfolds General Arnold’s life like the adventure story it is. A bold advocate for technological advancement, Hap Arnold was a powerful character in the golden age of aviation, an innovative warrior in the conflict that defined the modern era, and the creator of an entirely new branch of the US military.

Hap Arnold: The General Who Invented the US Air Force is a page-turning adventure biography for history buffs, aviation enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the events that shaped America and the world in the first half of the twentieth century.

MY THOUGHTS:
HAP ARNOLD: THE GENERAL WHO INVENTED THE U. S. AIR FORCE by Bill Yenne is an interesting History/U. S. Air Force. This is the story of General Henry Harley “Hap” Arnold, concerned the father of the modern United States Air Force. He is a five-star General.  Though, extensive research, interviews, and documentation he has brought Hap Arnold to life for the American people. He was or has been one of the neglected generals in American history, who served during World War II. Learning to fly from the famous Orville Wright,he predicted the Japanese would strike Pearl Harbor prior to the famous strike that took so many lives. What a fascinating story! I would suggest reading “Hap Arnold” for anyone who is interested in learning more on the U. S. Air Force, and on this interesting Military man. A must read! WHERE WERE YOU THE DAY KENNEDY WAS SAVED?

On the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination comes a new edition of the extraordinary time-travel thriller first published in 2003, now extensively revised and re-edited, and with a new Afterword from the authors.

On November 22, 1963, just hours after President Kennedy’s assassination, Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as President aboard Air Force One using JFK’s own Bible. Immediately afterward, the Bible disappeared. It has never been recovered. Today, its value would be beyond price.

In the year 2000, actress Cady Cuyler is recruited to return to 1963 for this Bible—while also discovering why her father disappeared in the same city, on the same tragic day. Finding frightening links between them will lead Cady to a far more perilous mission: to somehow prevent the President’s murder, with one unlikely ally: an ex-Marine named Lee Harvey Oswald.

Forward to Camelot: 50th Anniversary Edition brings together an unlikely trio: a gallant president, the young patriot who risks his own life to save him, and the woman who knows their future, who is desperate to save them both.

History CAN be altered …

TEA ANYONE? After decades of erosion of the U.S. Constitution, the United States is faced with a major constitutional crisis not seen since the Civil War. A president and his administration filled with scandals and plagued by economic woes surprisingly wins re-election to a second term largely based on an “October Surprise” and the promise of redistribution of the nation’s wealth. When frigate Captain Buckingham Kernow-Smith encounters a sprite in a topiary garden going by the name of “Gannymede,” he remembers his Shakespeare. Pulling off her stocking cap, he reveals the character of “Rosalind” from As You Like It, played, in this case, by the appealing Fanny Edwards. Three years pass. The War over, Buck encounters his Rosalind at a ball, where she has developed into a notable beauty. However, her guardian confides to him that she is dancing on the very edge of propriety. Buck, who has been fighting the French since he was twelve, also finds the ton confining and sympathizes with Fanny/Rosalind’s plight as a properly reared young lady. Together, they make a dangerous pair, stradling the line between propriety and scandal, indulging in a masquerade in daylight, riding together in a phaeton race, and laying plans for Fanny/Rosalind to play a role in Covent Garden Theater. Will Buck confide his secrets and overcome his life-long aversion to marriage? Can someone as headstrong and impetuous as Rosalind even commit to such a union?

ABOUT THE LOVED AND THE LOSTThe loved and the lost

A QUEST FOR LOST LOVE.

AN ADVENTURE OF MANY LIFETIMES.

They are three 24th-century time travelers desperate to return to 14th-century Verona and reclaim their medieval family’s shattered lives. It is a mission fraught with danger and the risk of unexpected consequences for themselves and their worlds. For all three, it is a matter of the heart. For one, though, it is truly the only thing that matters, as the fate of his eternal love and the life of their unborn child is the prize to be won – or lost forever.

In this, the final book of The Verona Trilogy, Hansum, Shamira and Lincoln go on the boldest adventure of their lives. They will face hardship, tragedy, and threats from sources they couldn’t have imagined – all in an effort to wrestle a future from the steely grip of an unforgiving past.

MY THOUGHTS:

THE LOVED AND THE LOST by Lory S. Kaufman is an interesting Fantasy/Science Fiction/Teens. Book 3 in the “Verona” trilogy, but can be read as a stand alone. Although, I would recommend reading the other two in this trilogy,”The Lens and the Looker” and “The Bronze and the Brimstone”. This is the final in the story of Hansum, Shamira and Lincoln, they start out in the 24 century and end up in the 14th century,Verona. These young teens have been on an adventure of a lifetime. Filled with love lost, love found again, tragedy, threats, and starting a new life. Fast paced, filled with danger, sacrifice, and of course love. An exciting conclusion to the “Verona”trilogy, with a few twists and turns and a lot of surprises. I think Young readers will enjoy this trilogy,as they learn history and can combine the two. An interesting tale of love and life.Received for an honest review from Pump Up Your Book.
