Book Description

The past threatens to destroy the good days ahead.

Liz has overcome the emptiness of her husband’s death, the hardships of the trip west and even the robbery and murder of her beloved grandfather.  Standing at the altar, she feels hope for the first time in many years.

Settling into their new home in Fort Worth, Texas, the cousins begin to build a new life now that grandfather is gone, but their minds are never at rest. Abby initiates the work necessary to start a new school while Liz works in the mercantile. Emma stands firm as a herd of cattle and cowboys come dangerously close, sparking a new venture for Emma-she learns that providing the cowboys with food and shelter, for both them and their horses, can bring extra income into the household.  But Emma can’t do it alone; she enlists the help of the lighthearted Megan.

When Liz becomes sick the whole town is abuzz  . . . as the women gather at the quilting frame relationships grow strong as women work together while facing the hardships and joys of a life on the prairies of Texas.

As the four cousins forge a new family amid the unfamiliar ways of those living on the plains, feel the suffering of loss and the joy of true love found.

My Thoughts

This novel is a historical fiction set in Pre-Civil War times.  This is the second part of a story that begins in the novel Threads of Change, and I highly recommend that anyone interested in reading Threads of Home, begin the series by reading the first novel first.  There is so much rich historical information that can be found in this novel that, not only is it a wonderfully written story, it will certainly remind you of all that was done and scarified to get where we are today.  The way the quilting and quilting frame seems to create new friendships and hold old ones together is very enjoyable and helps the reader become emotionally involved with all four of characters.  Each character, Megan, Liz, Emma and Abby, must choose their life path and work diligently to achieve their goals.  The sense of family and camaraderie that can be found throughout the novel is very heartwarming.  While it is a shorter novel, I did not find it to be a “quick” read, as there is so much history and information found on the pages that you really need to process in order to understand the plot.  As this was my first experience with Ms. Barrows’ novels, I really felt like I was missing a lot of background knowledge for the plot and character background.  This one is definitely not a stand-alone read, nor is the series itself.  While it is a decent book, I don’t think I would recommend this book to the younger generation of readers, but if quilting and history are your passion, then this is probably a great book for you!

SUSANNA’S DREAM by Marta Perry is a delightful Inspirational Fiction set in Pleasant Valley, PA. #2 in “The Lost Sisters of Pleasant Vally”, but can be read as a stand alone. Although, I would recommend reading Book 1 also. See, “Lydia’s Hope”.

“As Young girls, three Amish sisters were separated and told nothing about one another. When the long-held secret of their parentage came to light many years later. Two of the grown women reconnected. Now they reach out to the third.”

This is Susanna Bitler’s story. Her life is in turmoil, a long held family secret is about to be revealed that could destroy her, two sisters-she didn’t know she had, is about to reveal themselves, the woman she thought and mourns for, she is soon to learn, is not her biological Mother. A heart wrenching tale, that will stay with you long after the last page, but a very compelling and loving tale of the bond between sisters. An Amish lovers dream. A very enjoyable read. I would recommend to Amish lovers, and anyone who enjoys a sweet, tale that could either destroy one sister, or bring them all together. First, Susanna must face her own fears. Loved it! Unwittingly, she and her weak fiancé become entangled in the hostility between the Pirate Earl and his enemy, while even more dangerous forces are rising up to destroy them all.

RANSOM (LEGACY OF THE KING’S PIRATES) by MaryLu Tyndall is an exciting Inspirational Historical Fiction set in 1692 Port Royal, Jamaica. #4 in the “LEGACY OF THE KING’S PIRATES, but can be read as a stand alone. See, The Redemption, Legacy of the Kings’ Pirates Series #1,
Meet, Miss Juliana Dutton, the daughter of a shipping owner and  Alexander Hyde, son of the infamous Captain Edmund Merrick Hyde, aka, The Pirate Earl and Lord Munthrope, who is the town’s buffoon or so they think. And a few other wicked and not so wicked secondary characters.
“Ransom (Legacy of the King’s Pirates)” is the tale of faith, passion, secrets, love, romance, healing and forgiveness. Action packed, and fast paced from beginning to the every last page. Filled with adventure, a sea battle or two, struggles, and romance. Oh, an earthquake, and an earth shattering realization, literally!
WOW!! I was so excited to receive this long awaited tale, and was not disappointed. I adore pirates! The characters are engaging, and realistic. The storyline is interesting and intriguing. Although, poor Juliana meets with one problem after the other. From her desire to keep her secrets, to her troublesome twin brother, to her reaction to the Pirate King, and her growing attraction the buffoon Lord Munthrope. But can she trust either of them with her heart and her secrets? Juliana feels abandoned by everyone in her life, including God, sometimes.
Faith based, but not “preachy”. A pure joy to read! I couldn’t put RANSOM down!
Ms. Tyndall is back with her pirates!! I absolutely loved this tale of the promise of love, and the power of forgiveness and healing. A sweet romance! I can hardly wait to what is next for THE LEGACY OF THE KING’S PIRATES. If you don’t read any other tale of pirates and romance, you really should pick up RANSOM ( LEGACY OF THE KING’S PIRATES).
