Sarah Cooley has come home to Last Chance, New Mexico, for one reason–because it doesn’t change. After an engagement gone bad with a man who wanted to change everything about her, Sarah is more than ready for the town whose motto may as well be, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Chris Reed, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to spark some change in the little town. As the new owner of the Dip ‘n’ Dine, he’s shaking things up to draw folks from all over the Southwest into his restaurant.

As it turns out, the winds of change are blowing into Last Chance–just not in the ways that Sarah or Chris might expect.

With the same evocative writing and fascinating characters that won fans for her debut novel, Cathleen Armstrong invites readers back to Last Chance for a soul-searching, romantic story of two people navigating the twists and turns of small-town life.

ONE MORE LAST CHANCE by Cathleen Armstrong is an interesting Christian Contemporary Romance set in Last Chance, New Mexico. #2 in “A Place to Call Home” series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, “Welcome to Last Chance”.

This is Chris Reed and Sarah Cooley’s story. Small town life in a big time way. Filled with energy, forgiveness, healing, grace and the power of love. Put on a pair of worn-out jeans, and set back and enjoy your time with the engaging characters of Last Chance. A heartwarming, romantic tale of two people in small town, USA.

Enigmatic and charming characters await you at Last Chance. While, some things never change others change forever. Well written. From the first page to the last you will enjoy “One More Last Chance”. A wonderful tale of love and second chances. Received for an honest review from the publisher.r

Book Description Courtesy of Amazon:

The three wily and beautiful McDougal sisters can swindle a man faster than it takes to lasso a calf. But their luck is running out, and they’re about to be hauled off to jail. When the wagon carrying them falls under attack, each sister is picked up by a different man. Unfortunately for Abigail, she’s grabbed by a twit of a shoe salesman, Mr. Hershall Digman. She steals his horse and rides off to the nearest town, not giving him another thought…until she discovers those secret papers in his saddlebags. Could Mr. Digman be a Confederate spy?

As if to prove it, the man who comes storming after her is no shoe salesman, but a handsome captain who wants his papers back…at any cost. And Abigail wants a ride back home. Together they embark on his mission, determined not to trust each other…or the God who won’t seem to let them go.

My Thoughts:

I can’t wait to join these sisters in Mercy Flats again soon as possible! I was hooked from the first two pages when the Sisters hoodwinked a cattle rancher into buying steer that weren’t actually theirs to sell, and did it while masquerading as nuns! Classic! After being separated from her sisters during the attack on their wagon, Abigail must tolerate her rescuer until she either convinces him to help her get back to Mercy Flats or steals his horse to attempt it alone. Turns out, “tolerating” him may not be such a chore after all!

Mr. Digman was really a God-fearing confederate spy that must get a message to one of the companies who may be in trouble and Abigail was now along for the ride. Their relationships starts off a little rocky but they soon find a match in each other, even though they fight it until the very end. This was a sweet story with lots of laughs at Abigail’s antics, and cheers for everything they make it through. I really enjoyed the storyline and look forward to hearing how the other two sisters fared with their respective rescuers!

Life can turn on a dime. It’s a common cliché, and I’d heard it often enough. People die or move away. Investments go south. Affairs end. Loved ones betray us…Stuff happens.

Daisy McCrae’s life is in tatters. She’s lost her job, broken up with her boyfriend, and has been reduced to living in the attic above her family’s store, the Union Street Bakery, while learning the business. Unfortunately, the bakery is in serious hardship. Making things worse is the constant feeling of not being a “real” McCrae since she was adopted as a child and has a less-than-perfect relationship with her two sisters.

Then a long-standing elderly customer passes away, and for some reason bequeaths Daisy a journal dating back to the 1850s, written by a slave girl named Susie. As she reads, Daisy learns more about her family—and her own heritage—than she ever dreamed. Haunted by dreams of the young Susie, who beckons Daisy to “find her,” she is compelled to look further into the past of the town and her family.

What she finds are the answers she has longed for her entire life, and a chance to begin again with the courage and desire she thought she lost for good.
