Rachel Milligan is caring for her seven-year-old niece, Holly, at her home in Chicago when she receives devastating news: Holly’s parents have been killed in a plane crash. Because Rachel is Holly’s only known relative, she assumes that she will be her beloved niece’s guardian. However, custody is awarded to Lydia, a distant aunt who happens to be Amish. Just a week before Christmas, Rachel takes Holly to the Amish community in the hopes of persuading Aunt Lydia to relinquish custody. Instead, Lydia sets out to teach Holly to live according to the Amish way. As family secrets emerge and old wounds are healed, Rachel realizes that she will do whatever it takes to ensure that Holly has the loving family she needs.

Combining an Amish family saga with the anticipation of Christmas cheer and the promise of a budding romance, this newest Christmas story from beloved author Melody Carlson is sure to please.

MY THOUGHTS:
A SIMPLE CHRISTMAS WISH by Melody Carlson is an interesting inspirational Christmas Fiction. I simple love this author’s works and this was no different. With her usual finesse for life, love, Amish culture and holiday spirit, you can not go wrong with “A Simple Christmas Wish”. An emotional tale of tragedy,Christmas spirit, faith, family secrets and the Amish community. When tragedy brings Rachel and Miri together only a Christmas miracle can make it all seem quite possible, life, forgiveness and love. A must read Christmas novella. A quick, but fulfilling story! A woman without a prospect. A man without a homeland. Can love give them a future?

Honore Bainbridge has been courted by two men, one of whom turned out to be a traitor, the other a murderer. Banished to her family’s country estate, where she will hopefully stay out of trouble, she finally meets the man she is sure is exactly right for her: Lord Ashmoor. Tall, dark, and handsome–what more could a girl ask for?

But he too is under suspicion because of his American upbringing and accusations that he has helped French prisoners escape from Dartmoor Prison. If he’s to keep out of a British prison himself and secure his place in British society, Lord Ashmoor needs a wife beyond reproach–something the vexingly beautiful Honore certainly is not. Though they find themselves drawn to each other, family obligations may conspire to keep them apart forever.

For the sake of her heart, Honore determines to prove Ashmoor’s innocence–even if doing so risks her own life.

MY THOUGHTS:

A RELUCTANT COURTSHIP by Laurie Alice Eakes is an exciting Christian Historical Romance set in 1813 Devonshire, England. #3 in “The Daughters of Bainbridge House”, but can be read as a stand alone. See, “A Necessary Deception” and ” A Flight of Fancy”. “A Reluctant Courtship” is my favorite so far in this series. Follow Honore Bainbridge and Lord Ashmoor on a journey of danger, banishment, spies, family obligations, faith, healing, forgiveness, hope and love. With a bit of romance, lots of luck, Honore and Ashmoor may just find love and happiness and live to enjoy their lives.  Along with a lot of danger, a secret or two, revenge, justice, betrayal, you will find grace and the power of love. Honore must fight to save Ashmoor and prove him innocent of treason and being a traitor.A must read! The path to true love lies somewhere between two feuding families

In the spring of 1822, Ellie Ballantyne leaves finishing school and returns to the family home in Pittsburgh only to find that her parents are away on a long journey and her siblings don’t seem to want her to stay. Determined to stand her ground and find her place in the world, Ellie fills her time by opening a day school for young ladies.

But when one of her students turns out to be an incorrigible young member of the Turlock family, Ellie knows she must walk a fine line. Slaveholders and whiskey magnates, the Turlocks are envious of the powerful Ballantynes and suspicious of their abolitionist leanings. As Ellie becomes increasingly entangled with the rival clan–particularly the handsome Jack Turlock–she finds herself falling in love with an impossible future. Will she betray her family and side with the enemy?

Masterful storyteller Laura Frantz continues to unfold the stirring saga of the Ballantyne family in this majestic tale of love and loyalty. This is the Ballantyne Legacy.

MY THOUGHTS:

LOVE’S AWAKENING by Laura Frantz Inspirational Historical Romance (American Frontier) set in 1822 Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania. #2 in “The Ballantyne Legacy”,but can be read as a stand alone. See,”Love’s  Reckoning”. Another hit for this author and one not to miss! Fast paced and filled with faith, healing, forgiveness, passion, two feuding families and love. Join Ellie Ballantyne and Jack Turlock on their journey to love and loyalty.  The Ballantyne Legacy is one of abolitionist, and power. The Turlock’s on the other hand are whiskey magnates, and slaveholders or so it would seem. What happens when two feuding families find more than mistrust, feuding and hate? You will have to read “Love’s Awakening” to find the answer!

Move over the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s the Ballantyne’s and Turlock’s are here!

What a gripping love story and one that will have you turning pages well into the night. A must read for any historical romance reader, and readers of American history. Ms. Frantz is a masterful storyteller who holds her readers in awe as they follow her characters on a journey of faith and love. Please do not be held off by the genre of inspirational for it is not a “preachy” story, but one of faith, hope, feuding, forgiveness, healing and the power of love. For the last five months, Tom Anderson has been without a job, a fact he’s been hiding from his wife Jean–and everyone else. He leaves each morning, pretending nothing has changed, and spends his disheartening day rotating through two coffee shops and the library, using their wi-fi to search for a job on the internet. The stress of keeping this secret is beginning to put serious strain on his marriage and it looks like the legacy that began with his father is still at work, slowly destroying the bond between Tom and Jean. Can their mutual trust–and love–be restored?

Combining the literary talents of Dan Walsh and the relationship expertise of Gary Smalley, The Restoration Series pulls back the curtain of a family that has laid their foundation on shifting sand, but is slowly rediscovering genuine love and the power of forgiveness.

MY THOUGHTS:
THE PROMISE by Dan Walsh and Gary Smalley is an incredible inspirational Contemporary Fiction. #2 in “The Restoration” series, but can be read as a stand alone with re-appearing characters. Although, I would suggest reading “The Dance” first just to better understand the characters of Jim and Marilyn Anderson. This is the story of Tom and Jean Anderson, a dysfunctional couple to say the least, and one who is on the verge of disaster. Tom, is Jim and Marilyn’s son, from “The Dance”,he has lost his job and has been lying to his wife, Jean for a few months. This is a very complex but compelling story of faith, trust, secrets, and love. While at times disheartening, it shows the truth of marriage, the struggles within a marriage, the trust involved with loving someone and trying to protect them. An overwhelming story of the power of forgiveness and love. The team of Dan Walsh and Gary Smalley is suberb! Their characters are believable, realistic, engaging and very compelling. Their storyline is stressful at times while you follow the lives of their characters, but is true to life also.
“The Restoration” series  is just that a restoration of what is important in life. Received for an honest review from the publisher.

Lt. Georgiana Taylor has everything she could want. A comfortable boyfriend back home, a loving family, and a challenging job as a flight nurse. But in July 1943, Georgie’s cozy life gets decidedly more complicated when she meets pharmacist Sgt. John Hutchinson. Hutch resents the lack of respect he gets as a noncommissioned serviceman and hates how the war keeps him from his fiancée. While Georgie and Hutch share a love of the starry night skies over Sicily, their lives back home are falling apart. Can they weather the hurt and betrayal? Or will the pressures of war destroy the fragile connection they’ve made?

With her signature attention to detail and her talent for bringing characters together, Sarah Sundin pens another exciting tale in her series featuring WWII flight nurses. Fans new and old will find in On Distant Shores the perfect combination of emotion, action, and romance.

MY THOUGHTS:

ON DISTANT SHORES by Sarah Sundin is another exciting Inspirational Historical Romance (World War II) set in 1943. #2 in the “Wings of the Nightingale” series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, “With Every Letter”. This story does have alternating points of view between the characters, but this only adds character and realization to the story. Join Lt. Georgiana Taylor, a flight nurse and Sgt. John Hutchinson, a Pharmacist on a journey of hurt, betrayal, faith, healing, forgiveness, struggles, the effects of war and love. What a whirlwind tender love story among the turmoil of Germans, tradegy and war. You will be carried away to Army hospitals, airfields, battles, and other places all over the Mediterranean along with the characters. Ms. Sundin has an act with her storytelling of making the reader feel her characters hurt and pain as well as their joys and triumphs. If you enjoy stories of World War II than you will enjoy “On Distant Shores”. For a great love story with Ms. Sundin’s feel of World War II, her well-researched World War II story,an absorbing tale of love and a romantic read, pick up “On Distant Shores”,you will not be disappointed. Through turmoil and war can love really survive? A must read for any historical romance readers, those who enjoy World War II era stories and anyone who enjoys a great read. I would highly recommend this title! I can hardly wait to read the last book in this series, which I understand will be Lt. Kay Jobson and Lit. Roger Cooper’s story.
