Pirate or Laird…?

Birk Bane was born the second son, the unwanted son, the unneeded son. Crossed by family and falsely accused of a crime, he flees Scotland to the sea where he’s recruited by a pirate. Five years later, he’s captain of his own ship and embraces his new life, though an ache for the woman he left behind remains. When he receives word of his father’s death and his clan is floundering, Birk begrudgingly returns home. Little does he know there’s more he left behind than a title…much more.

Sheena MacRae helped Birk escape to safety years ago, always expecting he’d return. Time passes and she believes him to be dead. With her clan being terrorized and slaughtered, she accepts she is the only one who can stop the suffering by agreeing to marry Laird Gordon, the man behind the assaults. The man who is also poised to rule Birk’s clan. Despite the crushing need to hold Birk in her arms once more, his reappearance changes nothing. Sheena has too much to lose if she reneges the betrothal to Gordon. And while Birk’s intentions are to return to the sea after reclaiming his clan, she didn’t count on her pirate lover’s plan for revenge…

The longer he’s home, the more betrayal Birk uncovers. There will be a fiery battle ahead for Birk and his brethren. If he survives, how will he choose between the life he loves and the love of his life?

My thoughts:

The Laird’s Reckoning by Jennifer Bray-Weber is a beautifully written Pirate Romance set in 1730. “Romancing the Pirate” #6, but can be read as a stand alone.
A quick read, with a cast of characters that will take your breath away. They are believable, engaging and strong characters. I was glued to the pages from the first sentence to the last. I connected with these colorful characters. Just couldn’t stop turning pages. The plot is filled with heart-pounding action, adventure, danger and romance. There are a some humorous moments to me, mixed in with the excitement of pirate fighting, passionate kisses, betrayal and a masterfully written love story.
“The Laird’s Reckoning” in humble opinion is a must read. Great for an afternoon read at the beach, where you can hear the ocean and feel the breeze, and image pirates attacking your peaceful world, or, you could read it anywhere.

Jennifer Bray-Weber is a masterful storyteller who writes brilliantly and passionately. She knows how to bring her point across to her readers, without leaving out any of the story. She does not disappoint her readers.
I highly recommend this quick read.

My thoughts:

Highland Rogue by Dana D’Angelo is a magnificent Medieval Scottish Romance. While, #5 in her “Scottish Strife” series, it can be read as a stand alone. WOW, what a magnificent story !!

A quick, fast paced story of Alisha MacTellnor, and Donnell MacKelon. Alisha has been caring for her younger brother since their parents died, years ago, while he’s trying to be a man, she’s trying to keep him safe, now he wants to join the war effort and is determined to do so. Donnell, is a mercenary, handsome, loyal and looking for the man that killed his parents, years before, he’s so close to finding him. Despite all Alisha’s efforts her brother joins the war effort, this is where all her troubles start… Alisha and Donnell are drawn to each other. Their chemistry is electrifying. Would you stay with a band of mercenaries for love?

I loved this story!! I was glued to the pages from beginning to end. “Highland Rogue” is one of those stories that lingers long after the last page. It offers so much for readers of this genre, such as, fighting, courage, bravery, romance, engaging characters, vivid descriptions, and finding love amidst the turmoil of a war torn Scotland. The plot was well written, intriguing, and very captivating. Magnificent! !

Ms. D’Angelo is an exciting, amazing Medieval Romance, storyteller. The reader can tell she’s done her research, and uses that knowledge to write an amazing story. Highly recommended! My thoughts:

The Highlander’s Conquest (Stolen Bride #2) by Eliza Knight is a fantastic Medieval Scottish Romance set in England and Scotland. While, #2, it can be read as a stand alone. If you’ve not had a chance to read “The Highlander’s Reward”, #1, I’d definitely suggest reading it as well, as this is the story of Blane Sutherland, younger brother to the Laird of Sutherland, who disguises himself as an Englishman to sale the Sutherland’s wool in England. So when it became necessary to retrieve his brother’s wife’s younger sister, of course, Blane was the man to cross the border and retrieve her, bring her to Scotland to reunite with her sister and father, who had been wounded. Lady Aliah de Mowbray, is feisty, doesn’t trust the barbarian Scots, beautiful, she’s been protected all her life, and plans to vow her life to the church, but when danger persists, she shows Blane she can handle a bow and arrow, just like her sister. Aliah and Blane are a wonderful couple, one who deserves their HEA, their pull toward each other kept me turning the pages, from the beginning to the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed “The Higlander’s Conquest”. Ms. Knight has done it again with her vivid details, her strong characters, and her engaging story. I strongly recommend “The Highlander’s Conquest”. What a great read by Eliza Knight!!

Sorcha Ramsay is as willful as she is beautiful, and she has mastered the art of convincing others to do her bidding. She coerces a few guards to bring her on a hunting trip, but when an unidentified archer targets them, Sorcha is restricted to the castle grounds. Worse, she’s assigned a lout of a guardian—Cailean, the maddeningly handsome guard who saved her from the archer—until her sire returns from a visit to the Grants. How can she show her sire, the infamous Logan Ramsay, she’s grown up if she’s not allowed her freedom?

Though he intends never to marry, Cailean finds himself captivated by Sorcha’s beauty and brash charm. He’s determined to keep her safe from the archer, whether she wants him to or not. Then Sorcha’s sire returns with news that has the potential to ignite the Highlands: Laird Alexander Grant has been badly injured. Trouble is brewing, and the archer, who may or may not be connected to a larger plot against the Ramsays and the Grants, continues to target Sorcha.

As the danger mounts and Cailean and Sorcha are brought together again and again, their heated attraction becomes a deeper connection. But can Cailean convince Logan, the most fearsome man in the Highlands, that he is a worthy match for his firstborn daughter?
My Thoughts:

Sorcha (The Highland Clan) Book 8 by Keira Montclair is an absolute pleasure to read. Can be read as a stand alone. Ms. Montclair has written a story that has so much to offer readers, it has danger, adventure, drama, excitement, a bit of humor, some witty banter and romance.
I was pulled into Cailean McAdam and Sorcha Ramsay’s story from the very beginning. Sorcha has gone from a wee lassie to a grown lass, which perturbes her father, Logan, the most feared man in the Highlands. He is legendary. Cailean is proud, strong and brave, a guard for the Ramsay’s, and also cares deeply for Sorcha, but he’s not in her social class, he’s a mere guard. Can he convince Logan he is a worthy suitor? Has Sorcha’s feelings grown to love? Will they survive the danger they are facing, from unknown assailants?

Readers, will simply be factinated and thrilled as they are reading, “Sorcha”. I myself was astonished at Cailean and Sorcha’s young love and how Cailean finally gave in to marriage, family, love, and how he was determined to prove his love, even to the point of nearly dying. Friendship can turn to a strong and determined love. The antics of Logan was hilarious at times, sad at others, as he fears losing his beloved daughter. Every father’s nightmare.

I highly recommend this fast paced, thrilling and highly anticipated story. It has everything a romance reader could possibly wish in a Scottish Romance, and more. Brilliantly and masterfully written. The cast of characters were fantastic, even the villains were quiet convincing, which only added to Cailean
and Sorcha’a story.
Keira Montclair is one of my go to Medieval Scottish Romance authors. She never disappoints me, she always leaves me in absolute awe. What a mesmerizing story!! Well done, Ms. Montclair! I can’t wait to read the next grand adventure. Powerful and compelling. A definite must read for fans of Scottish Romance.

Well written, fast paced, action packed, with inner turmoil, heart-pounding fight scenes, and a trek across Scotland, makes for a fabulous Scottish Historical Romance. The romance is a definite plus, as well as, the struggle to find one’s inner self, again, adds much emotional baggage, as Kirk MacLeod fights to regain his faith in Robert the Bruce’s fight to free Scotland. He lost his faith, due to a gruesome seige in Ireland, while in service to Robert the Bruce’s, brother, Edward. By doing this one last deed for the cause, Robert the Bruce, agrees to release Kirk from his service to him and the cause, which, is a dangerous assignment, going undercover within, the ruthless Order, a group of cold-blooded mercenaries, bounty hunters for hire, to find and destroy the head of this ruthless organization, which has been one step ahead if them at every turn. Which, is what they did to Lillian’s husband. Now, Lillian has been captured by this ruthless Highland bounty hunter, but she senses there is more to Kirk then his exterior persona.
Kirk is caught between his duty to King and country, his assignment for the Order, and his feelings for so the brave, and mild mattered, Lillian, who brings a sense of peace to Kirk. Will Kirk and Lillian survive their trek across Scotland to found the own victories? Or lose all to duty? You must read this incredible Scottish Romance to find out the answers. This story has so much to offer readers, it leaves the reader breathless and absolutely enthralled, as they follow Kirk and Lillian’s story. The reader is also introduced to a new character, Eric, I so wish to learn more of him and his beloved sister. Ah, yet another story in the intriguing “Highland Bodyguards” series!

Fans of Scottish intrigue, heart-pounding action, historical intrigue, lasses with true strength, and bravery, and a Scottish warrior with much inner turmoil, are sure to enjoy Kirk and Lilluan’s story. There is so much to recommend, “Claimed by the Bounty Hunter”, to readers, I was glued to the pages from the first page forward.

Powerful, and compelling, with twists and turns and a few surprises and a treasure of a romance. I believe this is my favorite in this mesmerizing series. Simply awe inspiring and breathtaking as Kirk and Lillian make their way across Scotland, to find their HEA.

My Thoughts:

Unbreakable Heart (Legend of the King’s Guard Book 2) by Kari Griffin is such an intriguing tale of love and passion. While, Book 2 in “Legends of the King’s Guard”, it can be read as a stand alone. See, “Conquered Heart”.
Well written, fast paced, adventure filled with engaging, with well-developed and intriguing characters. The characterization and vivid descriptions will have the reader in awe.

This is the story of Liam of Clan Kincaid and Makenna Mackenzie. Liam is one of Robert the Bruce’s legendary “Legend of the King’s Guard”. Makenna has been though a nigtmare, she seen her entire family and clan killed by a group of English soldiers. Her younger sister was also, raped and brutalized, by the commanding officer, known as, Hawk. Makenna thought her sister dead. Out for vengeance, MacKenna, meets with the legendary guard, Liam, who happens to be her long time absence betrothed. She needs Liam to teach her how to use a sword, to kill her enemy. So they make a pack, she would marry him and he would train her to weld a sword.
Liam needs Makenna in order to have his father’s lands returned to him. Liam and his friends live in a cave, in hiding due to a misundstanding with Robert the Bruce, now King, which could get them all hanged for treason.

Together, can Liam and Makenna find their HEA or loss all to the need for revenge? I enjoyed watching Liam and Makenna become friends, lovers and soul mates. Liam would do anything to protect Makenna including death. Can she and Liam’s friends save him, before it’s too late?
Secrets, second chances, danger, passion, friendship, love and romance brings “Unbreakable Heart”, to an awesome climax. I absolutely loved Liam and Makenna’s story. It was compelling, powerful and enticing. I enjoyed how they each came to terms with their past, their heartache and find their way to a possible future of love and happiness.
Ms. Griffin, has written with emotion, the visualizations so real the reader feel Makenna’s horror, her desire for vengeance, and smell the Highland atmosphere. What an impressive Scottish Romance! A must read for fans of Highland Warriors, Scottish romance, Medieval romance, delicate situations, and great reads. Highly recommended! MY THOUGHTS:

**A bit about… “BookShots Flames,
Original romances presented by JAMES PATTERSON. Novels you can devour in a few hours. Impossible to stop reading.”**

Bedding the Highlander by Sabrina York with forward by James Patterson is a deliciously wicked Medieval Scottish Romance. Set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.

Quick read, only approximately 160 pages, but WOW. Easy to read with snarky characters, witty diagolue, steamy romance, a bit of danger and suspense, plus an air of mystery that surrounds the characters. There was some laugh at loud moments, as well as some extremely serious moments. All together, these elements makes for some entertaining reading.

I enjoyed watching Kirk and Katherine, find true love and their HEA. They were a perfect match, both dominaning, opinionated, likeable, and they both will capture reader’s heart, if not their heart then at least their interest. Elise’s sister was meek and even spoken, Katherine was determined to keep her safe from their brute of a father, and brother. Katherine at first was a bit hard to like, she lied, keep a huge secret from Kirk to get what to wanted. She was afterall, betrothed to Kirk’s brother and Laird, which, was by the way, an unwanted marriage, but overall it was easy to understand why she did the things to did to protect herself and her sister. Very entertaining and enticing!

The secondary characters helped bring this story to fruition. I can’t wait to see if, Ben, Kirk’s eldest brother and Laird of the Rannoch clan, Brodie, a friend, Elise, Katherine’s sister, Heather, Kirk and Ben’s younger sister, and Paden, will have stories of their own, I hope so anyway.

A perfect read for an lazy afternoon, can easily be read in one setting. Fans of Medevial Scottish Romance, quick reads, longer than a Novella, but not as long as a full length novel, snarky characters, strong female characters and brawn Highlanders, I feel will enjoy “Bedding the Highlander”. Ms. York did an excellent job of bringing these characters to life through the pages of “Bedding the Highlander”.
Enjoyable and satisfying read! Strongly recommended!
*Be aware, there are some steamy moments between Kirk and Katherine. Nothing demeaning, and only a few scenes.* I do hope you will pick up this enjoyable and quick read for yourselves. What a great way to spend the afternoon.
