When a Rogue Loves a WomanWhen a Rogue Loves a Woman

by Samantha Holt

Paperback, 190 pages
Published: February 3rd 2017
ISBN: 1542912008 (ISBN13: 9781542912006)

(Summary From Goodreads)

Notorious rogue, Lord Nathaniel Kingsley always tended to leap without thinking. Becoming a smuggler, adopting a sheep, getting engaged to Miss Patience Grey…

Patience has no need for a fiancé, or a husband. For once in her life, she wants to prove she’s just as good as a man and she does not need Nathaniel Kingsley getting in her way. With her brother injured, it is up to her to continue her family’s work…and that means tracking down a French spy and ensuring said spy will turn.

Unfortunately, no one believes she can do it alone. Which is where Nathaniel comes in.

Nate is happy to be of service. Why pass up the opportunity to repay an old friend, especially with a little intrigue along the way? Find the spy, play escort to Patience, return home to continue smuggling. Easy.

Or at least it would be if the stubborn Patience would let him do his job. The breeches-wearing woman is determined to do it all alone and, he has to admit, there’s something quite distracting about a woman in men’s clothes.

Can he keep his attention from her long enough to complete their mission and persuade Patience to let him do his job and protect her? A job he’s beginning to find he’s enjoying a lot more than he thought he would…

My Thoughts

Oh Wow! What a great historical romance. I loved that the heroine, Patience, isn’t perfect. She’s just herself, she doesn’t how to be anyone else. I did love that she finally accepted that being a “woman” is not a weakness but she still planed to be the toyboy she always was. I loved that Lord Nate accepts Patience and falls in love with, just as she is! He’s not worried about changing her because he falls for the person she is. I loved that about this story. Fans of Ms. Holt are in for a treat. WHEN A ROGUE LOVES A WOMAN is fun, witty, sweet and full of love. A great read! I highly recommend this one to fans of historical romances. Can’t wait to read more from Ms. Holt.

Merrick Mountshaw, the Duke of Moore loathes the pitiful existence he hides from the ton. With a scandalous wife he never wanted, who flaunts her many indiscretions, life is a never-ending parade of hell. When the one woman he loved and lost returns to London, he knows he can no longer live without her.

But vows and past hurts are not easily forgotten. Love may not win against the ton when a too proper Lord and Lady play by the rules.

Each book in the To Marry a Rogue series is a standalone story that can be enjoyed out of order.

MY THOUGHTS:

Only a Duke Will Do by Tamara Gill is a deliciously wicked Historical Romance.
Book 2 of the 2 book series, “To Marry a Rogue”, but can be read as a stand alone. See, Book 1 “Only an Earl Will Do”. Set in Scotland and London.

This is one of those WOW, stories. Well written, fast paced, action packed with realistic situations, challenges and hope of finding a HEA.
This is the story of Lady Isolde Worthingham and Merrick Mountshaw, the Duke of Moore.

With hatred, anger, scandal, heartbreak, separated lovers, secrets, betrayal, hope, healing, misunderstandings, and an unknown foe, readers will be turning pages as they have a few cries, some smiles, a bit of bitterness, and overwhelming desire for Isolde and Merrick to face the challenges presented to them, force the past hurts to heal, overcome the obstacles to find their HEA and a forever love. Merrick is married to a scandalous wife, one he never wanted, and who flaunts her many indiscretions. What a hell he’s been through. Then the only women he’s ever loved returns to London, all changes. I enjoyed Merrick and Isolde’s
story. Can heartbreak and scandal find healing, hope, and a second chance, amongst the chaos of their lives?

Ms. Gill presented readers with an emotionally charged read, that will have you turning pages as they are engrossed in an exciting and enticing read. Powerful, compelling, emotional and an absolute delight to read. Strongly recommended for fans of Historical Romance, fast paced and action packed stories with a strong heroine and a proper Lord who face the ton. Can Merrick and Isolde win if they by they follow the rules of the ton? I can’t wait to read Book 3, coming May 22, 2017 “Only a Viscount Will Do”.

MY THOUGHTS:

**A bit about… “BookShots Flames,
Original romances presented by JAMES PATTERSON. Novels you can devour in a few hours. Impossible to stop reading.”**

Bedding the Highlander by Sabrina York with forward by James Patterson is a deliciously wicked Medieval Scottish Romance. Set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.

Quick read, only approximately 160 pages, but WOW. Easy to read with snarky characters, witty diagolue, steamy romance, a bit of danger and suspense, plus an air of mystery that surrounds the characters. There was some laugh at loud moments, as well as some extremely serious moments. All together, these elements makes for some entertaining reading.

I enjoyed watching Kirk and Katherine, find true love and their HEA. They were a perfect match, both dominaning, opinionated, likeable, and they both will capture reader’s heart, if not their heart then at least their interest. Elise’s sister was meek and even spoken, Katherine was determined to keep her safe from their brute of a father, and brother. Katherine at first was a bit hard to like, she lied, keep a huge secret from Kirk to get what to wanted. She was afterall, betrothed to Kirk’s brother and Laird, which, was by the way, an unwanted marriage, but overall it was easy to understand why she did the things to did to protect herself and her sister. Very entertaining and enticing!

The secondary characters helped bring this story to fruition. I can’t wait to see if, Ben, Kirk’s eldest brother and Laird of the Rannoch clan, Brodie, a friend, Elise, Katherine’s sister, Heather, Kirk and Ben’s younger sister, and Paden, will have stories of their own, I hope so anyway.

A perfect read for an lazy afternoon, can easily be read in one setting. Fans of Medevial Scottish Romance, quick reads, longer than a Novella, but not as long as a full length novel, snarky characters, strong female characters and brawn Highlanders, I feel will enjoy “Bedding the Highlander”. Ms. York did an excellent job of bringing these characters to life through the pages of “Bedding the Highlander”.
Enjoyable and satisfying read! Strongly recommended!
*Be aware, there are some steamy moments between Kirk and Katherine. Nothing demeaning, and only a few scenes.* I do hope you will pick up this enjoyable and quick read for yourselves. What a great way to spend the afternoon.

MY THOUGHTS:

No Other Highlander (The McKennas) by Adrienne Basso is an intriguing Medieval Scottish Romance set in 1334 Scottish Highlands.
WOW! Fast paced, adventure filled, heart -pounding and very captivating tale of heartbreak, healing, forgiveness, learning to trust and finding HEA, peace and happiness. Such a powerful and compelling story!

Lady Joan Armstrong Fraser, was an abused wife with a small son Callum, escapes her abusive husband. While, she used to be a pampered and indulged daughter of a laird, her marriage to a brute and tyrant changed her, forever. Now she only wishes to provide her son with protection, security and love. Unfortunately, she’ll get no help from her father.
Sir Malcolm McKenna has known Lady Joan since her childhood he remembers her as a spoiled princess who is both dangerous and lovely. When she steps in to protect Malcolm he sees another side to the woman she’s grown into, she is fierce, tolerate and loves her child unconditionally.

Ms. Basso has written a sensitive, complicated, compassionate story of second chances that will captivate readers and capture their hearts from the first page to the last. Can horrors from the past, find healing and learn to trust and love, leaving all the baggage as a distance memory?

I adore how Ms. Basso brings this masterfully written story full circle to provide readers with mystery, suspense, passion and love. A must read Medieval Scottish Romance!
I can’t wait to read more of “The McKennas”.
Ms. Basso provided me with a few hours of escape from realism to the world of Highlanders, clans, and the lasses who loves them. I read it in one setting. I couldn’t put it down once I started reading! Strongly recommended!

A thief turned reluctant protector… A countess who resents but can’t resist him…

The Reiver
Sir Geoffrey has dedicated his life to exacting revenge on the men who killed his parents and stole his birthright. The son of a baron, he has been reduced to stealing the resources he needs to reclaim his family legacy. Just when he’s on the verge of success, his uncle asks him to put his plans on hold to help protect a wealthy countess. It’s a distraction Geoffrey resents, even more so when he meets Lady Sara. The gorgeous, complicated and alluring lady is everything he’d want in a woman—and everything he can’t have.

The Countess
With her betrothed coming to claim her hand in marriage and a distant cousin intent on usurping her earldom, Lady Sara Caiser feels beset by controlling men including two lawless border reivers who serve as her protectors. Despite her misgivings, an undeniable attraction pulls her into Sir Geoffrey’s arms. The man is more dangerous than she believed, for he’s noble, caring and sinfully attractive. As the threats against her continue to mount, Sara must decide what’s more important—her duty or her heart.

MY THOUGHTS

The Thief’s Countess by Cecelia Mecca is an addictive and brilliantly written story of honor, duty and love. Book 1 in what promises to be an extraordinary series, “Border” series. See the prequel, “The Ward’s Bride”. Set against the Anglo-Saxon border in the 13th century (1271), Northumbria, England. What a great Medevial Romance!

From the first page to the last, I was intrigued and glued to the pages. I couldn’t figure how Sir Geoffrey,
a Reiver, who needs to reclaim his inheritance, who seeks his revenge and Lady Sara Caiser, a Countess, an extraordinary lady of good breeding, alluring and complicated, would find their HEA, with so much against them. However, Ms. Mecca manages to pull it all together in a dramatic and heart felt ending. I loved these two characters, they were so caring, honor bound and determined to make the best out of the hand life dealt them. The secondary characters were perfect, Geoffrey’s Uncle Hugh and Sara’s lady’s maid, Faye, were perfect together, even in secret.

Fast paced with historical details, much research, Medevial challenges and the pressures of Medevial life, brings “The Thief’s Countess”, to life and adds more intrigue to the story. My only complaint, the ending felt a bit rushed, but was satisfying, as well as, exciting.
Many questions were answered. Filled with danger, suspense, mystery, intrigue, adventure, passion and romance. Everything Medevial Romance fans will love with twists and turns and a few surprises. I feel Cecelia Mecca is a new debut author to watch for, her writing is masterful, talented and an author I intend to follow. Her writing feels as if she’s been writing for years. Very impressive indeed! An outstanding Medevial Romance from a very talented author! I can’t wait to read Book 2, coming soon! A must read! Bravo, Cecelia Mecca! !

MY THOUGHTS

Runaway Wallflower by Bianca Blythe is a beautifully written story of a science-minded wallflower finding love but will she found her HEA?
Book 3 of 3 in “Matchmaking for Wallflowers” (3 Book Series), but can be read as a stand alone.

Lord Rupert Haywood, future Duke of Belmonte, and a Swarthy Sea Captain, who roams the sea with his rugged crew of pirates. Louisa Carmichael’s, is an American whose brother unexpectedly inherits a dukedom, but she would rather roam the waters of the Caribbean
and try her new invention, an underwater breathing apparatus, than follow her mother’s edicts. When Louisa’s mother arranges a marriage for her, she desires to don breeches and take an adventure on a forbidden journey on the sea.
What follows is hilarious at times, charming, heartwarming and a familiar tale of finding love, and a HEA. Also, filled with intrigue, romance, a bit of mystery and a new scientific “breathing” apparatus. A science minded heroine and a strong, handsome ex-Royal Navy Sea Captain, turned pirate, what could be better. Oh, did I mention sea adventures, pirates and a slow burn romance, considering the hero thinks the new member is a young man. A great Regency Romance! Very heartwarming, and charming romance with a few twists and turns on this couple’s adventure. Well written with engaging and interesting characters. The storyline was intriguing, charming and very entertaining. An enjoyable and satisfying read!

MY THOUGHTS

The Scoundrel’s Honor by Christi Caldwell is another example of writing from the heart. Set in 1822 London. While, Book 2 in her mesmerizing series, “Sinful Brides”, it can easily be read as a stand alone. See, “The Rogue’s Wager”. If you have read Ms. Caldwell’s intriguing stories before, you will probably remember Lady Penelope Tidemore and Ryker Black, as appearing characters.

Lady Penelope Tidemore is in no way a stranger to scandal. Her older siblings caused such a scandal, her family’s good name was mudged. She longs for adventure, romance and passion for herself, as well. The enigmatic but darkly Viscount Ryker Black, is a very dangerous man, he owns a gambling hell and does not enjoy, in fact, he despises the nick picking society, he was raised from the streets of London, afterall. He lives in a world filled with danger and debauchery. Therefore, does not desire a society miss to marry, until he meets the enchanting Lady Penelope who makes him burn with desire. When, Penelope is caught in a compromising postion, due to no fault of her own, will Ryker take responsibility and marry Penelope? Even through she is his sister’s new friend, will he leave Penelope to face the gossip, whispers and innuendoes alone? Can Ryker and Penelope find their HEA as danger lurks?

Fast paced, emotionally charged, intriguing, suspenseful, with mystery, and adventure. Christi Caldwell has a way with her stories that draws readers in and holds them spellbound throughout. I love her details to a story, her charactizations in my opinion are right on, the detail to the era is enlightened and the reader can tell she researches her topics to give the reader a more realistic view of the era, characters, their challenges and the storyline. The depth of her stories are heart stirring, powerful, as well as, captivating and seductively intriguing. Please, don’t get me wrong she in no way writes explicit scenes nor scenes that may embarrass the reader in anyway. Or to me, at least. Readers will find a read where ladies were treated as property and gentlemen their owners. But will Ryker be able to protect his cherished, and enchanting Penelope from the dangers his choice of living may cause? And society gossip?

Fans of Regency Romance, Historical Romance with complications, challenges, a bit of violence, ton scandal, intrigue and passionate characters, “The Scoundrel’s Honor” is a perfect read for you to start reading.

Ms. Caldwell is one of my favorite Regency Romance authors. She is such a dedicated author to her readers, her fans, and family, she simply is a powerful and compelling author of Regency Romance. “The Scoundrel’s Honor” is a not to miss Regency, it will capture your heart and hold you in awe! Well done again, Cthristi Caldwell!

MY THOUGHTS

Highland Vixen by Mary Wine is a memorable and intriguing story. Book 2 in her amazing “Highland Weddings” series, however, can be read as a stand alone. See, Book 1. “Highland Spitfire”.
What an intriguing and fast paced tale!

Meet, Marcus MacPherson, a fierce Highland war chief and Helen Grant, stubborn, feisty lass, who causes all kinds of unexpected trouble. Will Marcus and Helen be able to tame each other or lose all, without finding their HEA?
I absolutely love Mary Wine’s detail to history, her rich dialog, her characterization brings the characters to life, her descriptions and the atmosphere of Scottish Highlands, makes the story particularly, fly off the pages. I was addicted from the first sentence to the last, “Highland Vixen”, lingers long after the last sentence.

Filled with danger, intrigue, suspense, mystery, adventure, action, a feisty heroine, a brawn Highlander, the passion between them is off the charts, while, they butt horns often, their attraction and chemistry is apparent from the beginning. This story is magnificently written! I love how Ms. Wine blends fact with fiction, and the magic of the Highlands with the love of a beautiful, indepentent and head-strong lass, a seductive, but fierce Highlander with a kind heart, together to give readers a captivating and seductive read. WOW, what a wondrous story, to be sure! A not to miss Scottish Historical Romance.

A beautiful widow. A daring younger man. A society-threatening age gap. Keep it a secret or risk the wrath of the ton? Will there be any happily ever after for them?

Mrs. Anna Vanessa Maddy is a beautiful widow, now in her early 40s, although she’s always told that she looks much younger.

Duke Bryan Michael Watson has never minded a challenge, especially when society would not approve of the match.

The duke knows that if he hurts the pretty widow, regardless of her age, the members of his peerage—and all generations surrounding—will never forgive him. She’s a beautiful lady on the inside and out, and well loved by all those who know her. However, he’s immediately attracted to her, despite an age gap of more than twenty years.

Anna is lonely, despite the attempts of her teenage son and father to distract her from the sadness caused by her husband’s untimely death a few years earlier. At a grand ball, she meets a handsome young man who draws her into his aura, creating a magnetism that neither of them can deny.

Her father does not approve of the match, mostly due to the age difference, and they couple fears that society will never accept them for this reason. Without her father’s blessing, Anna cannot wed her handsome love, regardless of how she feels, and even if it means ignoring the fact that she already loves him more than she ever loved her husband.

Will Anna be forced to marry the much older Duke Doughtery, her father’s friend, instead of the love of her life?

Can Lord Bryan convince her father that his age is truly not a factor, and that his business savvy and maturity should be considered first—along with his love for Anna and her son?

MY THOUGHTS

Regency Romance: Duke’s Forbidden Love (The Fairbanks Series – Love & Hearts) (Historical Romance Fiction) Kindle Edition by Jessie Bennett is another superb addition to “The Fairbanks series – Love & Hearts”. While, part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. A Clean Regency Romance with intrigue and a unique plot. A older woman and a younger Duke find their attraction can cause a scandal. Can they face the wrath of the ton or will they chose the ton over finding their HEA? Well written with wonderful charactization and a well developed story. Mrs. Anna Vanessa Maddy, a widow, the age of 40, with a young son meets the very dependable, mature, and business savy, Duke Bryan Michael Watson, 20 years her junior. The ton and Anna’s father does not approve of the match. Will Anna marry the match her father wishes, to his much older friend, the Duke Dougherty or will she follow her heart? What’s best for her young son, love or social acceptance? This couple has much to deal with as well as her father’s unwillingness to approve or bless the match, mostly due to their age difference, they must face the ton’s reaction. Do you believe age really matters or is love more important than acceptance? Steady faced with engaging characters, who will capture your heart. Definitely has difficult decisions, consequences, with another much older suiter, and the age difference as problems. Ms. Bennett did a great job in conquering the age difference between an older woman and a younger gentleman. I enjoyed the story from the first page to the end. The conflict was not between Anna, Bryan or her son but Anna’s family, scandal and the whispers of the ton. An older, widow Lady, and a younger, impedious but mature Duke, along with the age difference must deal with society threatening their happiness. Whew! What a great story! Ms. Bennett has done it again. Well done! I recommend “Duke’s Forbidden Love” to fans of Regency Romance, as well as, Clean Romance, unique stories, older women and younger men, and sweet Romances. Enjoyable and satisfying read!
