Thunder claps roar and Odin’s ravens fly. Fearsome dragonships set sail – and the kingdoms of Western Europe hold their breath. Warriors of Thor are on the move. By the mid-ninth century, raids along Anglo-Saxon coasts by the pagan Danes have escalated, and as the raiders become bolder, attacks move deeper and deeper inland. Several bands even dare to overwinter on the coastal islands, particularly those at the mouth of the Thames, where the kingdoms of Wessex and Mercia border each other. After three hundred years of bitter conflict over supremacy, the kings of these kingdoms are ready to put past enmity aside and take the first steps towards unity; steps they see as vital in the face of this newfound threat to their lands . . . Alfred of Wessex and Eadwulf of Mercia are the sons of kings, their roles in life already charted. But the turbulent events in their childhood years change the natural progression of things – and determine the characters of the men they will become. Their roads to manhood follow vastly different routes: Eadwulf as a thrall in a pagan land; Alfred at his father’s court, and subsequently, those of his older brothers. But both learn crucial lessons along the way. Discovering that the enemy is not always a stranger is a harsh lesson indeed; the realisation that a trusted kinsman can turn traitor is the harshest lesson of all. The story takes us from the kingdoms of Mercia and Wessex to the Norse lands stretching north from Denmark to the Arctic Circle and east to the Baltic Sea. We glimpse the Court of Charles the Bald of West Francia and journey to the holy city of Rome. Through it all, the two boys move ever closer to their destinies.

My thoughts:

Shadow of the Raven (Sons of Kings Book 1) by Millie Thom. A very complex and captivating tale with many facets.
The cast of characters are enjoyable and intriguing. The storyline flowed seamlessly and was well executed, in my opinion. The plot was interesting as well as intriguing.
Ms. Thom did an excellent job of conveying her message to her readers, with her descriptions, her characterizations, and her in depth information. Her research totally shines through in this story of romance, love and turmoil. I did feel it ended a bit abruptly. No cliffhanger, but a need to read the next one. An enjoyable read! I look forward to her next release in this fantastic series. Strongly recommended.

Calder and Katja’s marriage, built on mistrust, rushes quickly into disaster. As Calder seeks to repair the damage, Katja discovers not another enemy, but a husband who pledges a new beginning.

My Thoughts:

The Highlander’s Viking Bride: Book 2 in the Hardy Heroines series by Cathy MacRae is an awesome Medieval Romance. I was positively entranced and entralled! Can be read as a stand alone.

Calder MacGerry, is the laird of an impoverished clan, but he has decided, after his beloved fathet’s recent death, he would end the bitter feud between the MacGerrys and Sinclair clans. He accepts Laird Sinclair’s offer of marriage to his only daughter, Katja, to seal the agreement between their clans. Peace between the two clans is finally on the horizon.

Katja however, is not so sure. She trusts no man, and not many lasse. She been raised around a clan that treats her no respect. She has brothers, of course, who tries to protect her ftom her father’s harsh treatment. She is the best archer in her clans, though.

What starts out as a marriage of hope, soon turns to mistrust and someone in clan MacGerry is trying to run Katja away. She is accepted by her husband’s family with open arms and some others in the clan, however, acidents soon start happening to her. She is poisoned, nearly raped, and set upon by thuds, it’s a good thing she is a fiece lass who can protect herself. Calder is furious when he learns of the things that’s been happening to his new wife. Can love grow from mistrust and hapastance?

“The Highlander’s Viking Bride” is filled with intrigue, mistrust, danger, romance, betrayal and love. It seems when things happen to Katja her husband is not around he’s often trying to increase his clan’s strength, so he’s absent often, he leaves his bride with his brother for her protection.

This story has everything a romance reader could possibly wish to find in a great read. From complex and engaging characters to intriguing plots to a dangerous trek to the Shetlands to finding a true and absolute love and another family she hasn’t seen for many years, her mother’s Viking family. There is a wonderful cast of characters, I can’t wait to read more about their lives.
With mistrust, loneliness, much excitement, forgiveness, love and so much more, readers will be thrilled and excited to read Katja and Calder’s story. I fell in love with them from the very beginning. Fast paced, a definite page turner, with so much to offer readers. Cathy MacRae does not disappoint readers. I hope you will see what I’m talking about and pick up you’re copy.
A definite must read! An extraordinary Medieval Romance!!

Vikings evoke images of strong men who allow nothing to stand in their way. They’re not normally associated with tender feelings. Wildflowers conjure more personal and sentimental images. In BANISHED, a handful of bluebells picked from a meadow by childhood sweethearts becomes a symbol and eventually an acknowledgement of a love long denied.
Audra longs to leave behind the life of an elite mercenary, a role forced on her after her father’s banishment from the Viking brotherhood.
A journey from exile to the court of King Canute offers a new life, though she fears few men will want her once her history is known.
The bloody feud that precipitated her father’s banishment resurfaces when she is unexpectedly reunited with a childhood sweetheart. Sigmar has always held her heart, but he is the son of her father’s enemy. Sigmar’s hopes for advancement in Canute’s service will be dashed if he obeys the dictates of family honor.
Can Audra and Sigmar lay the hatreds of the past to rest, or will the Viking code of vengeance triumph?

About the author…

Allie Mackay is the alter ego of Sue-Ellen Welfonder, a USA Today Bestselling author
who writes Scottish medieval romances.

Allie Mackay’s bio could easily mirror Sue-Ellen’s.  But as Allie writes modern-day American heroines falling in love with medieval Highlanders, a few differences exist.  Allie’s own adventures in Scotland fuel her stories, so her characters’ experiences are often her own.  Such as her love-hate relationship with left-driving and thread-thin Highland roads.

Allie also trys to convince Sue-Ellen that they need a third ‘alter-ego.’  Someone to do all the work, so that the two of them can run away to Scotland, never looking back.

As you can see, Allie has a sense of humor.  If you want a meatier bio, read Sue-Ellen’s by clicking here.
