BOOK DESCRIPTION (from Amazon)

Maggie Lawson is an OR nurse, a certified germaphobe! She likes to keep things clean and orderly. When she meets Ex-Navy SEAL, Gabe Masters, he’s disguised as a dingy dirty hobo. She cringes as she’s forced to use her nursing skills to revive him. She soon finds that he’s a ‘dirty boy’ in more ways than one! After being forced to do his bidding, she unwittingly gets entangled in a dangerous, fast-paced, sexy adventure that tests the boundaries of her spirit and the capacity of her heart. Gabe’s passion spirals her to unimaginable heights. She soon starts to wonder if he is the real danger. Will she succumb to this ‘dirty boy’ who’s keeping secrets about his past, or will she chose to keep things clean?

MY THOUGHTS:

STEAL MY HEART by Lisa Eugene  is a fast paced Romantic Suspense novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat and the pages flying!   It is #2 in Eugene’s Washington Memorial series, but can be read as a stand alone. It is not necessary to read the series in order.

STEAL MY HEART is the love story of Maggie Lawson and ex-Navy SEAL, Gabe Masters.  Maggie is a germ-a-phobic nurse who accidentally becomes involved in a dirty and dangerous adventure with Gabe Masters.  At first she is forced to help Gabe through her nursing skills.  Then, she is forced to assist Gabe by gunpoint.  It doesn’t take long, however, for her to willingly assist the ruggedly handsome, enigmatic ex-SEAL because the chemistry between the two is explosive.

The love scenes in STEAL MY HEART are sizzling.  The suspense will have you enthralled, and you’ll find this book hard to put down.   Eugene will have you guessing until the end.

STEAL MY HEART is full of suspense, danger, and romance.  This was my first Lisa Eugene book and I loved it.  I don’t usually read books with graphic love scenes, but I did enjoy this one because of the generous mixture of mystery in the story.  It is definitely for mature readers.  This is a great book for anyone who enjoys suspense, mystery, and lots of sizzling romance.   Received for an honest review.

Conservative Emergency Room Physician, Nina Henley has always followed the rules. Her life has been dictated by her unwavering commitment to medicine. Wade Connolly, renowned medical malpractice attorney and ‘New York’s sexiest bachelor’ enters her life and challenges her with his bold sexuality and intense passion. One look into his gorgeous blue eyes and Nina is forced to acknowledge needs that have long been repressed. When she becomes involved in Wade’s perilous malpractice case she realizes that she is at risk for not only heartbreak, but betrayal as everything she’s worked so hard for is threatened. Will Wade’s passion and love be enough to save her or will she lose everything…including her life?
MY THOUGHTS:
Strictly Business by Lisa Eugene is the first of three books in her Washington Memorial series.  It is not necessary to read the books in order.  Strictly Business is a fast paced, super hot, romantic suspense that has a medical background.
Strictly Business is the story of Nina Henley, an ER doctor who is committed to her job and to helping others.  While on duty in the ER, she has Wade Connolly as a patient.  Wade is titled as “New York’s Sexiest Bachelor.”  He is also a renowned medical malpractice lawyer.  The sparks between the Nina and Wade occur instantly almost cause the ER to combust!
This book is filled with plenty of sizzling encounters between the physician and the handsome lawyer.  It does, however, have a great storyline as Nina becomes involved in one of Wade’s malpractice cases.  Life-threatening incidents occur that keep the suspense flowing and the pages turning.  This book is hard to put down!
Strictly Business is fast paced and abounding with intrigue and passion.  If you love romantic suspense, you must read Strictly Business and the others in the Washington Memorial Hospital series.  #1 Strictly Business, #2 Steal My Heart, and #3 Surrender My Love.

BOOK DESCRIPTION FROM AMAZON

Patients are dying at Washington Memorial Hospital and no one knows why….
Nurse Chloe Bennett is a dedicated healer. Her job means everything to her, and she needs it to support her family. When she finds herself in the middle of yet another Code Blue, she questions the unexplained deaths.
Doctor Brad Markson is a world renowned cardiac surgeon. Brilliant, powerful, and sinfully sexy! He does not tolerate losing patients. When his patient mysteriously dies, he looks for answers.
The two work together to unravel the sinister events surrounding the deaths at Washington Memorial Hospital, and soon find themselves fighting for their lives in this fast paced, erotic thriller. When Chloe becomes the center of suspicion, she is surprised to find she has an ally in the gorgeous Dr. Markson.
Shy, sweet Chloe is unable to resist him with his sultry blue eyes and wickedly sexy smile. His passionate kisses ignite her body, and his mere touch induces shivering pleasure. She doesn’t know if she’s ready to give away her heart after her traumatic past, and Brad is battling career demons of his own.
Can the two learn to trust each other? Will they live long enough to find love and happiness…or will there be two more deaths?

MY THOUGHTS:

SURRENDER MY LOVE, by Lisa Eugene is the third and final book of the ‘Washington Memorial Hospital’ series.  It is not necessary to read the books in order, however, I found that reading SURRENDER MY LOVE last, tied the three together nicely, making a great finale to the series.

I enjoyed all the ‘Washington Memorial Hospital’ books, but I especially liked SURRENDER MY LOVE.  I was immediately endeared to the main character, Chloe.  She is a sweet, hard working, and caring nurse.  The kind of nurse everyone wants attending to their loved ones.  I was not so quickly endeared to Dr. Brad Markson.  When we’re introduced to him, he is arrogant, demanding, and rude.  It took awhile for me to realize that he is passionate about his work.  He puts forth his best efforts and expects no less from others that work with him.  Just as Chloe is the kind of nurse everyone would like to have, Dr. Brad is the kind of doctor we all wish for ourselves and loved ones.

Chloe and Brad have a chemistry that is not all about medicine.  I was quite surprised when sweet Chloe became quite wicked in the steamy romantic scenes in SURRENDER MY LOVE.  I don’t usually read books with such graphic sex scenes, but I found that it was hard to skip over them in this book.  Lisa Eugene is a fantastic writer and even the graphic sex scenes were well written and enhanced empathy with the characters.

Chloe and Brad each have battles of their own in their personal lives.  Chloe is handling family issues with a deadbeat brother and a disabled mother.  Brad is struggling to find happiness and balance in his life.  Neither of them have time for more discourse in their lives, but they soon encounter loads of it.  Patients at Washington Memorial Hospital are mysteriously dying and Chloe is wrongly suspected.  She must go on the run and Brad has the fight of his life trying to clear her name and find the real culprit.  As the two work together to solve mystery of the patient deaths, chemisty between them ignites.

SURRENDER MY LOVE is a medical romantic suspense that is hard to put down.  I have loved Eugene’s ‘Washington Memorial Hospital’ series and this book was a great conclusion.  I have found all of Lisa Eugene’s books to be fast paced, extra spicy, and full of suspense.  I can hardly wait to read another book by her.

Book Description (from Amazon)

Ever since James W Marshall discovered gold at Sutter’s Mill, California, it was only a matter of time before thousands flocked to the area to seek their fortune. Lydia Collins is a young woman running a boarding-house with her Aunt May in New York City and when she hears of the discovery, nothing seems more ridiculous to her than the idea of leaving everything behind to chase a dream. After all, she has everything she could possibly want – a successful business and a handsome, charming, fiancé, Jake. However, all that changes with the arrival of the mysterious Silas Jones, who brings with him news that turns Lydia’s world upside down. She begins to wonder if California might not be the best place for her after all and embarks upon the adventure of a lifetime following her heart to see if she can find the greatest treasure of all: love. Fortune Out West is a gripping new series of romantic novels set in the Californian Gold Rush of the mid-19th century. The five books in the collection follow the life of Lydia Collins, as a chain of events leads her to question what it is she really wants – and with whom. Fortune Out West: The Series Includes all 5 Books: Book One: A Rush of Gold to the Head Book Two: Don’t Look Back Book Three: Dry Diggins Book Four: Suspicions and Lies Book Five:Here to Stay

MY THOUGHTS:

I thoroughly enjoyed this series of western romance novels.  The setting is the California Gold Rush of the mid 19th century.  Although the series is fictional, there are some events in the story that actually occurred in real life.  This series helped me visualize what life was like during the California Gold Rush.

The series is composed of five novels that follow the life of Lydia Collins.  We are introduced to Lydia when she is operating a boarding house in New York City with her Aunt May.  Lydia is newly engaged to Jake Bennet.  When a new boarder, Silas Jones, arrives at the boarding house, he begins to uncover Jake’s background and true identity.  Lydia is shocked when Silas reveals that Jake is not whom he seems.  Lydia finds out Jake’s true intentions too late.  With her savings stolen and Aunt May on her deathbed, Lydia is heartbroken.  She makes the decision to leave her beloved boardinghouse and join the masses headed to California to seek their fortunes.  Lydia crosses paths again with Silas during her travels.  Silas recognizes that Lydia is a strong business woman and he offers her the opportunity to manage his thriving saloon and boarding house in Dry Diggins which is later renamed as Placerville.

Lydia Collins and Silas Jones did not get along in the beginning.  Although they didn’t like each other personally, they each admired the others business capabilities.  They’re able to have an excellent working relationship in Placerville and build a prosperous establishment with the saloon.  As the business grows, so does their personal relationship.  Lydia and Silas soon realize they’re in love.  Their relationship is threatened when a beautiful showgirl from Silas’s past entertains at the saloon.  Lydia has to decide if she will start over in new town, or stand her ground in Placerville.

This is a wonderful western romance series.  K.L. Hemley brings the California Gold Rush to life through the eyes of Lydia Collins.  I have already signed up for K.L. Hemley’s newsletter from the website and I’ll definitely read other books written by this author.

Book Description (from Amazon)

Three siblings searching for the truth about their family are about to find more than they bargained for…

For years Brandon Ferringer has sought to untangle the mystery surrounding his father’s disappearance.  Now training as a hotshot—a seasonal wildland fire fighter—Brandon feels he’s on the verge of finally discovering the truth.  In need of temporary lodging, Brandon rents a room at a local farm, and is surprised when his attraction to the ranch’s alluring owner threatens to distract him from his mission.

Single mother Victoria Meese struggles to find time for herself in between raising her son, Randy, and running the Lady Luck Ranch. When she meets Brandon, she suddenly finds something to believe in again. But Brandon’s search for answers is about to turn dangerous, threatening their growing connection—and their very lives.

MY THOUGHTS:

Lisa Gardner, a well known crime novelist, is the author of Brandon’s Bride writing as Alicia Scott.  It is the third book in the “Family Secrets Trilogy.”  Brandon’s Bride can be read as a stand alone novel.  I read it as a stand alone without realizing it was part of a trilogy until after I began it.  Since I was already hooked, I continued reading and found I enjoyed it very much as a stand alone.

In the “Family Secrets Trilogy,”  Brandon Ferringer and his two siblings have been on a quest for several years trying to untangle events leading to their father’s disappearance.  In Brandon’s Bride, Brandon follows a lead to a small town in Oregon and becomes a “hotshot” so he can secretly search for information about his father.  While in Oregon, Brandon needs housing and rents a room at a local ranch.  Brandon finds the ranch owner very attractive.  The feeling is mutual for owner, Victoria.  As their love affair grows, they become entangled in the Ferringer mystery and encounter several deadly situations that implicate Victoria’s ex-husband.

I found the plot of Brandon’s Bride predictable – but not in a bad way.  I feel that there is so much going on in this story with Brandon and Victoria individually, that making their love story twist and turn would have caused the plot to become very  complicated and the reader would have lost enjoyment.  Yes, it was predictable that two attractive people who are put together on a remote ranch would fall in love.  Thus, we have the love story of Brandon and Victoria.  With that being a “given,” readers can focus on the individual complications each character brings to the story through the Ferringer family mystery and Victoria’s past.

I found myself intrigued in both the danger Victoria and her family encounter from her ex-husband, and in the mystery of Brandon’s father’s disappearance.  Both story lines move along on individual threads that become intertwined in the end.  The predictable love story between Brandon and Victoria becomes “icing on the cake” to the suspenseful mystery that climaxes as Brandon completes his quest.

Book Description (goodreads)

She expects her mission to be difficult, but what she doesn’t expect is to have her life saved by the sexiest man she’s ever met.

Highland warrior Ewan Brody always wanted a sweet, uncomplicated woman by his side, but he can’t fight his attraction to the beautiful enchantress who’s stumbled into his life. He quickly learns, though, that Pandora is not only a witch, but also a pirate and possibly a traitor’s daughter—and though she’s tricked him into playing her husband at King Henry’s court, he’s falling hard.

Soon, they begin to discover dark secrets leading to the real traitor of the Tudor court, the one Ewan was hired to capture. Now, Ewan and Pandora must uncover the truth before they lose more than just their hearts.

MY THOUGHTS:

TANGLED HEARTS by Heather McCollum is an exciting Historical Paranormal Romance set in 1517 England & Scotland. The Tudor era. #2 in “A Highland Heart novel”, but can be read as a stand alone. Has just the right amount of suspense, passion and romance.  Filled with treason, betrayal, a traitor or two, Scottish Highlanders, High Sea adventure, passion, a witch, a bit of magic, deceit, a bit of trouble, lots of danger and love. What a cast of characters, King Henry VIII, Jane Seymour and Ann Bolyn just to name a few.  The Tudor era at it’s worst or best. Meet, Ewan Brody, a Highland warrior and Pandora Wyatt,a witch among other things. Follow them on an adventure of passion andlove. It’s not just about the magic but its about the  story of two people, the magic of love, the Tudor dynasty and what a story. I would highly recommend “Tangled Hearts” especially if you enjoy high adventure, highlanders, magic, the Tudor era, and the magic of love. A must read! Book Description (from Amazon)

Cheryl Crane, daughter of movie icon Lana Turner, brings her Hollywood insider expertise to the second book in a star-studded mystery series featuring celebrity realtor-turned-sleuth Nikki Harper and her screen goddess mother, Victoria Bordeaux…Nikki Harper is a superstar among Hollywood realtors. Among private investigators however, she’s strictly amateur, and her first case was a Waterworld-sized disaster. But when a body turns up in a dumpster behind Victoria Bordeaux’s mansion, Nikki feels duty-bound to get involved. Before his demise, Eddie Bernard was the uber-privileged son of one of the biggest TV producers of all time, and a spoiled, violent, party-boy loser. The list of people glad to see him gone could stretch from one end of Bel Air to the other. In fact, about the only person Nikki’s sure is innocent is the prime suspect: Jorge Delgado, her childhood friend and the son of Victoria’s housekeeper. With the D.A. and the media throwing the words “death penalty” around, Nikki has to help. Victoria, of course, can’t wait to delve into another Tinseltown scandal, and soon Nikki is submerged in a secret world of celebrity drug-dealing, dangerous cults, conniving stars, illegal aliens and, of all things, the Food Network. With the aid of a voyeuristic neighbour and some good old-fashioned bribery, Nikki starts to close in on the truth. But can she keep Jorge from facing the final curtain…while keeping herself out of a killer’s spotlight?

MY THOUGHTS:

I was very interested in reading IMITATION OF DEATH by Cheryl Crane after I knew a little of the author’s background.  Cheryl Crane is the daughter of Hollywood movie legend, Lana Turner.  Interestingly, Crane herself committed murder in 1958 at the age of 14 when she fatally stabbed her mother’s abusive boyfriend.  The stabbing was ruled to be justifiable homicide because she was protecting her mother at the time.  Crane has written an autobiography, Detour: a Hollywood Tragedy – My Life With Lana Turner, My Mother and other books.

IMITATION OF DEATH is the second book in the Nikki Harper Mystery series.  It can be read as a stand alone novel.  IMITATION OF DEATH seems to be a story that is parallel to Crane’s personal life.  Today, Crane works in real estate in California.  Her heroine, Nikki Harper, also works in real estate and has a mother who is a Hollywood legend.  Crane’s personal background in old Hollywood has apparently been a positive factor in creating Nikki and the other characters in this series.  Her inside knowledge of celebrity life has enabled her to create a believable and exciting fictional mystery.  I found myself fully engaged in this mystery involving celebrities and scandal.  The plot is excellent and there’s a surprising twist in the end.  I think all mystery lovers will enjoy IMITATION OF DEATH.

Book Description (from Amazon)

Police Officer Joey Frost has her hands full this Christmas in Carol Falls, Vermont. A vandal is painting the town red, green and every color in between, plus someone left baby Holly in the manger of the town’s Nativity display and no one has a clue where her mother is. But Joey can handle it all . . . until a snow storm blows Noel “Fletch” Fletcher back to town.
Joey and Fletch have a history. But he’s no longer the cute boy who kissed–and–dismissed her in high school. He’s grown into a dangerously attractive man—who also nabbed the promotion Joey was gunning for. When the Police Chief assigns them to work together, Fletch’s “by–the–book” law enforcement style is almost as irritating as the resurfacing of their old attraction. Is Fletch trying to distract her from her career aspirations? Or is true love going to be her surprise Christmas gift this year?

THE HOLLY & THE IVY, a 50,000 word sweet romance novella, is Book Three of “A Frost Family Christmas” trilogy. Each novella is a complete romance, with a mystery running through all three books that is resolved in this last story. The three titles in the series are;
BOOK 1: WHAT CHILD IS THIS by C. J. CARMICHAEL
BOOK 2: HOME FOR CHRISTMAS by ROXY BOROUGHS
BOOK 3: THE HOLLY & THE IVY by BRENDA M. COLLINS

MY THOUGHTS:

THE HOLLY & THE IVY can be enjoyed as a stand alone novel, however, it is awesome as the conclusion to the Frost Family Trilogy.  There’s a mystery intertwining all three books in the series.  In this third installment, you will be rewarded when the mystery has a most surprising resolution!

I found myself smiling many times as I read THE HOLLY & THE IVY.  It’s so pleasant to read a sweet romance with such a wonderful plot.  In this final book, we meet the only sister in the Frost family.  Joey Frost is vying to be Deputy Chief of Carol Falls Police Department.  Her carefully laid plays are thrown awry one snowy evening when her old high school flame returns to town as the interim deputy chief.  Joey is blindsided by Fletch’s return and his position with the police department.  Joey and Fletch are assigned to work together and despite butting head, they soon find themselves having a second chance at love.

I highly recommend reading THE HOLLY & THE IVY, either alone or in the trilogy.  Although these are Christmas stores, they can be enjoyed any time of year.  The heartwarming stories and characters will leave a lasting impression.  I was sorry to end the trilogy.  I would love to read more about the Frost family.

Book Description (from Amazon)

This holiday season, April Rochester must decide if her first love is merely “Home for Christmas” – or home for good.

James Frost, the black sheep of the family, is back in Carol Falls, Vermont, to build a big box store and prove he’s a success. His plans derail when he learns his high school sweetheart has moved back to town also, along with her autistic son, Marcus.

Ten years ago Jimmy and April eloped, only to be torn apart when April’s parents insisted on an annulment. Their love for each other never died, however, and this could be their second chance. But James has been hiding behind a mountain of secrets, one of them involving baby Holly, the abandoned child recently found at the family farm.

And all of James’ well-kept secrets are about to come tumbling down.

“Home for Christmas”, a 40,000 word sweet romance novella, is Book Two of “A Frost Family Christmas” trilogy. Each novella is a complete romance with a linking mystery connecting the three books.

The three titles in this series are:
Book 1 = “What Child is This” by C.J. Carmichael
Book 2 = “Home for Christmas” by Roxy Boroughs
Book 3 = “The Holly & the Ivy” by Brenda M. Collins

MY THOUGHTS:

Home for Christmas by Roxy Boroughs is the second installment in the trilogy, “A Frost Family Christmas.”  Although part of a trilogy, Home for Christmas can be a stand alone novella.  The three novella’s are so heartwarming, however, I really can’t see how anyone would want to read one without the others.  There is an underlying mystery that tie the three novella’s together.   After reading the first installment, I eagerly started Home for Christmas which features another of the Frost siblings, James.

James Frost seems to be the black sheep of the family.  He has several secrets and a heartbreaking past in his hometown of Carol Falls, Vermont.  He returns home on a business trip and reconnects with his family and his one true love, April.  James is intent on proving to all that he’s done well for himself.  As he works toward this goal, secrets are revealed and it takes everything he has to face his past.

The characters in Home for Christmas are well developed.  I was quickly endeared to them and immersed in the story.  There were several times while reading that I had those moments that all readers love – those “jaw dropping” moments when a turn in the plot takes you completely by surprise.  I was reluctant for the story to end and found myself craving to read more.  Even though Home for Christmas was a great stand alone novella, I will be moving on to the third installment of “A Frost Family Christmas” and I can hardly wait!
