Book Description

In the picturesque town of Serendipity, New York, three siblings have grown up in the shadow of their proud and respected police chief father. But what do love, fate, and fortune have in store for the next generation of Serendipity’s finest?

Tired of being the easygoing daughter, always ignored in favor of her high-maintenance sister, and no longer interested in being her fiancé’s trophy wife, Nicole Farnsworth calls off her wedding. All she wants is to be herself. And where better to find her destiny than Serendipity? The place where she met the one man who made her heart beat faster, and gave her the courage to reinvent her life—even if he doesn’t know it.

Officer Sam Marsden calls Serendipity home and he loves it there—even though his childhood sweetheart was stolen by his best friend. After such heartbreak, Sam fears he can’t trust his instincts when it comes to love. Yet he’s so tempted by Nicole, a woman he met only briefly but who has starred in his dreams ever since. For Nicole and Sam, opening their hearts one more time could change their lives forever. But who’ll be the first to take that chance?

My Thoughts

When Nicole realizes that what she has with her fiancé Tyler isn’t the passionate love she’s looking for, she decides to call off her wedding and head to the one place that has made her feel comfortable, Serendipity.  Knowing that people there might need to be won over due to the episode with her twin sister, Nicole sets out to create a new, and better, life for herself.  But even starting over isn’t that easy.  She’s overheard a conversation between Tyler’s Dad and someone else that eludes to some illegal activity regarding her father and Tyler’s father’s company and knows she must decide how to handle the new information.  But in the meantime, she reconnects with the one man who gives her butterflies in all the right places.  Sam.  Nicole and Sam begin a physical, no strings attached relationship, but as things always seem to go, emotions do get involved.  Especially the more they learn about each other’s past. Nicole has broken an engagement and Sam, well, he was left at the altar.  As they try to keep their relationship simple, they begin to realize it’s anything but.  Especially when Nicole’s ex-fiance shows up in Serendipity determined to win her back.  Can Sam and Nicole defy all odds and manage to be “Perfect Together”?

A wonderful story by Carly Phillips.  The characters in this novel seem so real; they are very easy to relate to.  I enjoyed the story between Nicole and Sam and loved how their relationship experiences gave them something to overcome.  The added drama about her father’s company and Tyler being in Serendipity really helped to keep the plot moving fast and gave it a sense of mystery/action.  I also enjoyed the side story between Tyler and Nicole’s friend Macy and hope that we will see these two characters in another novel!  Even though this is the third (and final) book in a series, you certainly don’t have to read the others to understand the plot of this novel (this was my first one in the series and I didn’t have any trouble following along!).  I found this novel to be highly entertaining and would recommend reading this book and others by Carly Phillips.

Book Description

While in London on business during the Season, Lord Paul Russell, attracted by a beautiful woman, fails in securing a place on her dance card. The next morning when he returns to Cornwall, he wonders if this mystery woman will still be available.

Bored by all the eligible gentlemen she meets, Lady Samantha Grayson desires more than their meaningless conversations and preoccupation with silly fashion requirements. Only one gentleman catches her eye, but she misses her chance to speak to him, never encountering him again the rest of the Season.

A sudden snowstorm on Christmas Eve morning catches Samantha alone and unprotected. When she seeks shelter in a nearby cottage, she is astonished when the door opens to the very man who caught her interest in London a few months ago. What was doomed to be an uneventful Christmas, to her pleasant surprise could be better than a present.

My Thoughts

Lady Samantha Grayson is bored.  She hasn’t met a single gentleman that can hold her attention.  Until she sees Lord Paul Russell across the room.  But even though he stands in the crowd of eligible bachelors surrounding her, he doesn’t secure a spot on her dance card.  And then she doesn’t see him again.

Lord Paul would love nothing more than to dance with the beautiful Lady Samantha, but when her dance card fills up, he leaves the ball without having an introduction.  He must leave for his home in Cornwall and fears he may never again see his mystery lady.

When Samantha is visiting her family for Christmas, she decides she simply must go sneak out and go for a ride, and what better way to sneak around than in men’s clothing?  But a sudden snowstorm spooks her horse and leaves her stranded all alone in the woods, cold and alone.  She stumbles upon a cottage and is surprised when the man who opens the door is none other than the gentleman from the ball!  The problem?  She’s dressed as a groom and revealing herself will compromise and humiliate her.  But Lord Paul sees through her disguise and uses the unique opportunity to get to know her better, but unfortunately, he must let her return to her family’s estate without revealing that he knows who she is.  How will they be able to connect when both are pretending and neither is willing to take a chance on revealing her identity?  Later, when a friendly Christmas Eve game turns into quite the surprise, will Samantha see her surprise as something “Better than a Present”?

Such a fun and entertaining short story by Ms. Moore!  Very well developed characters and a plot that will have you smiling as you read.  I loved the way that Paul immediately recognizes Samantha, but allows her to continue her charade, while giving her questions to try to trip her up.  The dialogue between them is great and the ending is absolutely adorable!  If you’re looking for a good, quick story to read that will leave you with a smile, then “Better Than A Present” is definitely for you!

Book Description

She’s not waiting for her prince. He’s not looking for a bride. But sometimes the most unlikely love stories end in ‘happily ever after’…

Ellie Stratham gave up her childhood dreams of a fairy tale romance long ago. To repay her late father’s debts, she’s forced to serve her spoiled cousin, Lady Beatrice. But Ellie has devised a secret plan to escape her life as a drudge. A plan that is thrown into jeopardy when she’s abducted by a mysterious stranger.

A notorious seducer of women—and a scoundrel to boot—Damien Burke has earned his nickname as the Demon Prince. But his plot to kidnap Lady Beatrice to make her brother return a priceless heirloom backfires—and he ends up with their penniless cousin Ellie as his hostage. By the time Damien realizes his mistake, he and his fiery-willed captive are trapped in a remote castle during a wild winter storm. And he soon finds that the true hostage may be his own heart.

My Thoughts

Captivating from start to finish!  Olivia Drake continues her Cinderella Sisterhood Series with another masterpiece!

Damien Burke, owner of a notorious gambling club, has almost everything he’s ever wanted.  He’s amassed enough money to buy the best that money can buy, however; there is one thing he can’t buy.  It’s the one thing he desires more than anything in the world, the answers to his past.  A key, stolen from him while he was at Eton, may hold the answer to the mystery behind his birth.  Knowing that the owner of the key, one villainous Viscount Greaves, won’t just hand it over after all these years, Damien decides to kidnap his sister, Lady Beatrice, and demand the key as ransom.  So he carefully devises a plan and sets it in motion.  Only he kidnaps the wrong lady…

Eloise Stratham is a penniless, orphaned cousin to Viscount Greaves, and must rely on her uncle, Lord Pennington, for everything.  Being set to live with her uncle when she was only fourteen, Ellie is used to hard work.  Having to work off her father’s gambling debt and earn her keep, Ellie has played maid and governess to her cousins.  Her youngest cousin, Beatrice is set to make her come-out this year, and Ellie longs for the freedom she hopes to have after finally launching her last pupil into society.  But when she notices a black carriage that appears to be following Beatrice and herself, she gets quite the uneasy feeling.  Little does she know, her life is getting ready to change in the biggest way possible.

After abducting the wrong lady and transporting her to an island fortress, Damien can’t believe his bad luck.  But when he realizes that the chaperone he mistakenly took is actually beautiful and feisty underneath all that drab clothing, he soon realizes that his biggest mistake may actually be a blessing in disguise.  Even though he won’t be getting the key as random, Ellie agrees to help him find it just as soon as they can return to London.  As Ellie and Damien spend time together while waiting out a bitter winter storm, they begin to develop a relationship built on trust and friendship, and each shares secrets that they’ve never told before.  When the legendary Lady Milford shows up for an unexpected visit, neither Damien nor Ellie will be ready for the even bigger storm they’re about to face.  Will Damien and Ellie’s relationship survive and will they ever retrieve the key that will help him unlock the secrets of his past?

I absolutely adore the Cinderella Sisterhood Series by Olivia Drake!  The premise behind the garnet shoes helping the young ladies who are in need is genius!  And I am a huge fan of Lady Milford!  She’s everything you’d want a real life “fairy godmother” to be!  Ellie and Damien’s characters are well written and utterly enjoyable.  I found myself routing for their happily-ever-after almost from the very beginning!  I thoroughly enjoyed how Ellie was finally treated like the lady she was instead of some poor relation.  Damien’s vulnerability with regards to his unknown heritage was heartbreaking, since he only wanted to know for the sake of his daughter, Lily.  The ending was definitely unexpected but fitting for such a wonderfully written novel.  This is one I will be reading again and again.  If you’re a fan of historical fiction based in the Regency Era, then don’t miss this one! Book Description

When her stepfather suddenly dies, Valeria Segrave finds she must take charge of her grieving mother and the vast estate which now belongs to her six-year-old half brother, the new Earl of Maledon. Though capable, Valeria is frustrated to find each day brings a new struggle as she tries to establish her authority with servants, stewards, and solicitors-all men. As a young woman with no blood relation to the earl, they are all too ready to dismiss her.

Much to her chagrin, she must rely on the assistance of her stepfather’s distant kinsman, Alastair, Lord Hylton. He is handsome and noble, and Valeria senses under the veneer of his gentlemanly behavior that she never measures up to his expectations of a refined lady. In light of that, accepting his help and feeling under a burden of gratitude to him is almost unbearable. Even when Valeria leaves the country estate for the glittering London Season, where she gets into a series of escapades, Lord Hylton is always there to witness, criticize, and correct her behavior. But if Alastair insists on engaging in a battle of wits and wills with the lively Valeria, she’ll stop at nothing to prove that he’s met his match.

My Thoughts

Valeria Segrave is a rather outspoken, headstrong young lady who desires to do well in the eyes of her mother, Regina.  She has dealt with the death of her father at an early age and now has lost her step-father.  She and his closest male relative, Lord Hylton, or Alastair, begin handling the estate matters until her half-brother, St. John, is old enough to take over.  Valeria, a free spirit, and Alastair, a strict rule follower, must learn how to work together and communicate for the good of the estate.  When Valeria and her family go to London in order for her to have a season, she must learn how to follow the strict guidelines or risk being shunned by Polite Society.  Alastair is also in town, along with his mother, and together they help to guide Valeria in the correct way, against her wishes.  But when a dashing rake leads Valeria into a compromising situation, she must learn a valuable life lesson and understand that repentance and forgiveness hold the key to her happiness.  As Valeria reconnects with God, she also realizes that she may be falling in love with Alastair, but will the choices she’s made so far keep him from seeing her as a suitable wife?

A thought-provoking novel by Lynn Morris.  This novel is divided into three parts.  Part One consists of the time from when Valeria discovers her step-father’s immorality and her resentment towards him to the time they learn of his untimely demise.  During this time, Valeria begins her fall away from God as she invites hatred into her heart and begins to push God away.  In Part Two we see that Valeria is struggling internally with having not forgiven her stepfather before his death and her outward struggle to allow Alastair to help with items regarding the estate.  She continues her descent into a more worldly life-style as she begins to concern herself with people’s opinions of her and continuing to have a pessimistic view on the world.  She resents Alastair for all the help he provides instead of being thankful and gracious.  During this time, we get to meet other characters that add depth and some humor to the story.  During Part Three, we see Valeria become so consumed with the London way of life that she falls deeply into the life of sin and almost ruins her life and her family’s good name.  At the end, Alastair helps Valeria to see that she is being selfish and very unchristian like and she begins the soul-searching process before finally seeing that she needs to repent and forgive all those who have wronged her in order to have a chance at true happiness.

I felt that overall, this was a decent novel, even though it is not my typical read.  I found that Mrs. Morris prefers to give a lot of descriptions about fabrics, lace, outfits, textures, etc.  While I am not a huge fan of this type of prose, I can respect that she did an excellent job with the details.  She also provided an abundance of historical details into her writing, such that, someone who is new to historical fiction would be able to understand what was happening and why these events were important.  The relationship between Alastair and Valeria was quite unique, as they spend most of their time at odds with each other and only acknowledged their feelings towards the very end of the book.  There is not a lot of emotional attachment between these two and I never became very involved with their characters.  I did however, enjoy the relationship between St. John, Regina, and Valeria and their ability to overcome tragedy and depend on one another and God to help them find their way.  Alastair’s character was very steady throughout while Valeria went through several changes, as mentioned above.  There is a Reader’s Group Guide at the back of the novel, and after reading the questions, I found that this book would be great for a Christian book club reading.  A well-written and thoroughly planned book that is sure to make you think about your faith walk. Book Description

Lady Lucy Upton’s tongue may be too sharp to attract suitors but her heart is good, and when her painfully shy friend Cassandra needs help she devises a brilliant scheme to help her discourage an unwanted suitor, the Duke of Claringdon. Lucy will hide behind the hedgerow and tell Cass just what to say to discourage the Duke of Claringdon…but it turns out that he’s made of sterner stuff than either of them anticipated. And Lucy is shocked to discover that tangling with the tenacious man is the most fun she’s had in ages.

Lord Derek Hunt made a promise to his dying friend to marry the demure Cassandra, and for a man who wants nothing more than peace and quiet after the horrors of war, she’ll make the perfect bride. If only the impudent Miss Upton will let him court the girl! Doing battle is the last thing on his mind, but bantering with Lucy behind the bushes is too tempting to resist. And in The Unexpected Duchess, the spoils of this war just may be true love.

My Thoughts

If you’re looking for a book filled with witty banter and a sharped tongue heroine then The Unexpected Duchess is the book for you!!

Lady Lucy Upton isn’t afraid to speak her mind.  And she does so quite often.  When a Duke decides to court her best friend Cassandra against Cass’s wishes, Lucy decides to help.  Cass is as demure and quiet as an English Lady comes, so fending off the Duke is ever so hard.  But Cass knows that if anyone can help her thwart his plans to marry her, then Lucy is the one for the job.  But all of Lucy’s plans are discovered by the duke, leaving her frustrated and confused.  How is she to help her best friend if Lord Derek Hunt, the Duke of Claringdon, is just as clever and sharped tongued as she?  And why does she find that the more she engages in battle with Derek, the more she wants to be around him?

Lord Derek Hunt, Duke of Claringdon didn’t ask to be a Duke.  He would certainly rather be on the battlefield searching for his lost friends or sitting beside the bed of his dying one.  But instead his mission is to come to London, be celebrated, and find a bride.  None of which he wants to do.  But when he finds the young lady he’s been recommended, he finds he can’t get close to her because of her ever so annoying and interfering friend.  All Derek wants to do is fulfill a promise to a dying friend, marry Cassandra, and be done with the London drawing rooms.  Why won’t her annoying little friend, Lady Lucy, just leave him alone?  Instead she’s determined to issue setdown after setdown towards him.  Well, little does she know, Lucy has finally met her match.  If it’s a battle Lucy wants it’s a battle Derek will give.  But as they both set out to accomplish their (opposing) goals, they not only begin to develop a respect for one another, but also an attraction.  However Derek is promise-bound to Cassandra and it appears that a love match between Derek and Lucy just isn’t meant to be.  Can Lucy stand to watch Cassandra walk down the aisle with Derek or will this be the end of their friendship?  And what will Derek do now that he’s found love with Lucy but knows he must honor his promise?

This novel is an absolute jewel!  The hilarious dialogue, the rich characters and superb writing makes this one a great read!!  I am so excited about the start of a new series and can not wait to read more!!  With this novel being the first of a new series, it does an excellent job of introducing all the new characters and the overarching plot that will connect all of the books together.  I loved Lucy’s scheming, skilled tongue, and her sheer determination.  She is such a loyal friend throughout the whole novel and that is so refreshing to read, even if she does make a few mistakes along the way.  I adored Derek and his unwillingness to back down from Lucy.  The scene with the challenge between Derek and Lucy was genius!  I smiled the whole way through it!  I was very happy with the ending, but I honestly wasn’t exactly sure how Ms. Bowman was going to give us that happily ever after we all crave!  Overall, this is just an exceptionally well written book that is easy to read and is sure to put a smile on your face. Book Description

Chessy and Tate have been married for several years. In the beginning, their relationship was everything she wanted. Passionate. All consuming. She offered her submission freely and Tate cherished her gift with a tenderness that made her feel safe. Content. Wanted. And loved beyond all measure. But as the years have gone by, Tate has become more immersed in making his business the success it has become, and Chessy has taken a back seat to his business obligations. Growing unhappier with the status of their once blissful marriage, Chessy knows that something has to give. Or they stand to lose it all

Tate loves his wife. Has always loved her. Providing for her has always been his number one priority. But lately she’s seemed unhappy, and he’s worried. Worried enough that he arranges for a night together that he hopes will reignite the fire that once burned like an inferno between them.

But a business call at the wrong time threatens everything. Chessy’s safety, his concentration, his wife’s faith in him as her husband, a man sworn to love and protect her above all else. Gutted with the realization that he’s going to lose her—has already lost her—he readies for the fight of his life. Whatever it takes, he’ll get her back. And prove to her that nothing is more important than her love. And that if she’ll allow him to prove himself one more time, he’ll take it all. Everything. But he’ll give far more back. Himself. His undying love.

My Thoughts

This thrilling conclusion to Maya Banks’ Surrender Trilogy is sure to take your breath away!

All Chessy wants is her husband back.  Her lover.  Her Dominant.  But for the past two years, he’s devoted more and more of his time into his business and less and less into their relationship.  Chessy just wants to have the passion, the desire, and most of all the security that comes from their marriage.  As their anniversary approaches, Chessy knows it’s now or never so she finally tells Tate how she feels.  Devastated that he’s let it get this far, Tate promises to once again make her a priority.  To show her how much he means to her, Tate showers her with love, affection, and gifts.  He even plans a night to remember at The House, a dominance club they used to visit frequently.  But when a client’s call comes in the middle of their special night, Tate foolishly takes the call and puts not only Chessy’s life in danger, but her security, her trust, and her love.  Vowing to win Chessy back once and for all, Tate decides to make some changes that are sure to show her how much she really means.  But is it too little too late or will Chessy find it in her heart to forgive Tate and allow him to once again hold the key to her heart?

I loved this book, but after reading about Chessy and Tate in the previous two novels, I had no doubts that I would.  From heated arguments to passionate love scenes, this book will take you through every emotion imaginable.  The book is mostly written from Chessy’s point of view but does have some sections/chapters that are written from Tate’s.  While I did feel for Tate and his obliviousness to the situation he was creating at home, I mostly wanted to slap him for being so darn stupid!  I simply adore Chessy.  She’s radiant, beautiful, and most of all…..forgiving.  I thought every part of her story was very realistic.  The self-doubt, anger, depression, and confusion are all things that someone who was going through a really rough patch in their relationship would experience.  I also really enjoyed how much the storyline included characters from the previous novels in the series, Joss and Dash, Kylie and Jenson.  It’s always an added bonus to me when you get to read about what’s happening with those characters now, even though it’s not “their” book.  I thought that Ms. Banks did a superb job with not only Chessy and Tate’s story, but also with closing out this series in general.  A very well written, highly entertaining novel by Maya Banks.  Don’t miss this novel, I promise….You will regret it! Make You Mine (Dumont Bachelors, #1)

Publisher:  Signet: Penguin Group (USA) LLC

Published date:  May 6, 2014

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Description

For ninety-nine years, every man in the Dumont family has remained a perpetual bachelor. Residents of Cedar Bayou, Louisiana, whisper about a voodoo hex cast upon the family, sabotaging each man’s chance at marriage. In truth, the Dumont men have their own player personalities to blame, and Marc is no exception. As captain of his family’s riverboat, he’s broken hearts up and down the Mississippi. That is, until his high school crush strolls onboard…

Allie Mauvais rocks the boat when she fills in as pastry chef. She hasn’t seen Marc since senior year, when rumors flew that her great-great-grandmother was the one who cursed the Dumonts. After two weeks on the water, neither can deny the attraction that still burns between them. But to truly reach Marc’s heart, Allie must show him that the hex is all in his head and it’ll take more than her mouthwatering sweets to prove it. Will Allie’s love be enough to finally make Marc hers?

My Thoughts

This one is sure to have you laughing out loud!  Macy Beckett has written a very entertaining and comical new novel!

Allie Mauvais has had a crush on Marc Dumont for as long as she can remember, even though he promised to call her after taking her to the prom, only to never speak to her again.  In fact, his avoidance of her is so bad, he actually crosses the street instead of walking in front of her bakery.  But when Marc’s pastry chef for his riverboat is unable to make the trip, it’s Allie to the rescue, well sort of.

Marc knows all about the family curse placed by Allie’s great-great-grandmother; he’s seen the results first hand, so he makes sure to have as little contact with Allie as possible.  But after his father named him captain of the family riverboat, Marc finds that he needs her if his first cruise as Captain is to be a success.  From the moment he speaks to Allie again, Marc feels the curse at work, but the attraction between Allie and Marc is so strong that he decides he’s willing to relax his rules long enough to have some fun with the enchanting Allie.  Allie knows that the curse isn’t real, that it’s simply all in the Dumont Men’s heads.  When Marc finally notices her, Allie is determined to make the most of it.  She knows she must convince him that the curse isn’t real and that they can have a wonderful future together.  But the more Allie and Marc heat up the sheets, the more trouble they run into, the kind that can only be explained by the curse, at least in Marc’s mind.  Can Allie prove to Marc that they can be together or is he willing to let a century old rumor come between a life filled with love and happiness?

This book is sexy, hilarious, and just plain fun!  From the jerk of a chef, to the grandfather who is so superstitious it’s comical, this book is sure to entertain.  I loved the way that Allie knew she wanted Marc and was willing to bide her time and take it slow in order to finally win what she wanted.  Marc’s reluctance to let go and accept the relationship was exceedingly frustrating but necessary for the plot!  I was so happy for them when they finally decided to do something about the sexual tension between them!  The sense of family throughout the book, from Marc and his brothers, to Allie and her sister, Devyn, is quite endearing.  The premise of the curse linking all the books in this series is very unique and refreshing and I am looking forward to reading more in the series!  Overall a great novel all the way around!

Book Description

Thousands are fleeing the chaos and social unrest.
With their own water and power supplies, fourteen year old Nairne and her family are well prepared, but most people are less fortunate. When Nairne persuades her father, Daniel, to house some of the evacuees on their small holding in the south of Scotland she plunges the family into a world of violence, deception and murder.
With society at breaking point, she has to grow up quickly as she discovers that the fortress Daniel built to give his children a chance has become the prize in a struggle where winning can mean the difference between life and death.

My Thoughts

A thought provoking novel by Rachel Meehan.

A climate change has occurred and has changed life as we know it.  Flooding, Freezing Temperatures, and Strong Winds have resulted in a lack of food and drinkable water.  Fortunately Nairne and her family are well prepared for such an emergency, but not everyone is.  When Nairne convinces her father to take in another family, things take a turn for the worse. The father of that family, Mr Unwin, is shady at best, the mother, Pamela is a narcissist and the teenage son, Paul, is well, rather juvenile and annoying.   Nairne’s brother, Zane gets involved with Mr. UnWin’s “business” and then goes missing and tragedy strikes Daniel, will Nairne be able to keep it together and remain strong enough to survive?

A very well written novel with an excellent plot and very detailed setting and characters.  This book is easy to read and will keep you turning page after page.  While you know that Nairne will have to overcome many obstacles in order to survive this pre-apocalyptic world, the overall theme of the novel is that she will overcome and survive.  I really enjoyed the parallel between the society’s collapse and the way that Nairne’s life is also slowly starting to unweave itself and leave her with quite a bit of mess to sort through.  While the climate change certainly happened fast in the novel, it will really make you question our lives and the “what if” of the future.  While this is not the typical book that I read (quite different actually) I found it refreshing and enjoyable, if maybe a little seemingly far-fetched.  There is simply so much going on in this novel, it’s rather hard to write a review without giving away a lot of the plot!  If you’re into this type of novel, give it a try!  I’m sure it won’t disappoint you!

Book Description

The widowed Lady Isabel Avenbury has one remaining younger sister to shepherd into an advantageous marriage, and then she will be free. Free to take a lover to fill her lonely nights—the only option left for a woman on the delicate edge of a certain age.

Except when she chaperones her sister to a country house party, she is taken aback by her sudden, undeniable attraction to the host. And deliciously scandalized when she finds a copy of the notorious, much-gossiped-about Ladies Book of Pleasures in his library.

When Seth Rowland, Marquis Lyndham, notices his book is missing, his interest is piqued as to which of the potential young brides at his party has absconded with it—and he’s shocked to discover it’s Isabel. Though older than the women he’d planned to court, the powerful beauty exudes a sensuality he cannot ignore.

The book inspires them to begin a desperate, passionate affair. But their time together is running out and they must choose. Follow society’s rules, or take a chance at love.

Warning: Found within are highly scandalous books that trigger passionate desires, surrender in the orangery and possibly true love.

My Thoughts

A sensual, highly addictive novel by Jess Michaels.  I cannot wait to read more in this series!

Seth Rowland knows he must choose a bride this season in order to keep the estate and title in his family line.  But even with the cream of the crop at his country house party, he can’t find one young lady that sets his blood on fire.  That is until Lady Isabel Avenbury arrives with her younger sister, Serena.  But it’s not Serena who sparks a fire in him.  It’s Isabel.

Isabel feels an instant attraction to Seth but knows that he is strictly off limits.  Not only is she too old for him, but she also can’t provide him the one thing he’s in need of, an heir.  But that fact does nothing to calm the ever growing fire in her heart and well, other places.  So when Seth catches her with his copy of a rather scandalous book, he presses his advantage and convinces Isabel to engage in a rather passionate, and secret, affair.  As things heat up between the sheets, so do the feelings that Seth and Isobel have for each other.  But no matter what feelings may be growing between them, the fact still remains that it must soon end so that Seth can pick his bride and produce an heir.  As their affair comes to an end, Isobel and Seth are both left with an aching heart and no way to fix it…or is there?

My OH My…..this novel is hot!  If you’re looking for a spicy historical romance that will take your breath away, then A Matter of Sin is the book for you!  From the confident and fiery Isobel to the devastatingly romantic and sexy Seth, this book has something for everyone!  The love scenes in this one are juicy, passionate and make-you-melt hot!  And while there are quite a few saucy scenes, all are tastefully done and there is certainly more of a plot to this one than simply the sex.  Isobel certainly has her share of insecurities with being barren but it only helps add to her story and her ability to cope and overcome.  Seth’s dealing with the death of his father and his brother, thus leaving him the only one left to carry on the family line, helps to add a sense of urgency to the novel and I can tell you I really didn’t see this one ending quite the way it did!  I very much enjoyed all the supporting characters like Seth’s mother and Isobel’s two best friends.   I am very much looking forward to reading the other novels in this series!  Very well done Jess Michaels!
