Book Description

In the wake of a heartbreaking betrayal, a young woman leaves the Scottish countryside to find her destiny in three of the most exciting cities in the world—New York, Paris, and London—in this funny and triumphant tale of fulfillment, friendship, and love.

Ten years ago, a young and naïve Cassie married her first serious boyfriend, believing he would be with her forever. Now, her marriage is in tatters and Cassie has no career or home of her own. Though she feels betrayed and confused, Cassie isn’t giving up. She’s going to take control of her life. But first she has to find out where she belongs . . . and who she wants to be.

Over the course of one year, Cassie leaves her sheltered life in rural Scotland to stay with her best friends living in the most glamorous cities in the world: New York, Paris, and London. Exchanging comfort food and mousy hair for a low-carb diet and a gorgeous new look, Cassie tries each city on for size as she searches for the life she’s meant to have . . . and the man she’s meant to love.

My Thoughts

A beautifully written novel narrating the trials and struggles of a young lady trying to rediscover herself.

During a 10 year anniversary party for Cassie and her husband Gil, Cassie discovers a horrible secret.  Her husband is having an affair with one of her closest friends.  And that’s not all.  Upon discovering that her life is in tatters, her three childhood friends vow to help her get back on her feet, rediscover herself, and show her a good time.  Splitting up a year into thirds, Cassie is scheduled to spend 4 months with each friend, in three different, glamorous cities.  When Cassie arrives in her first city, New York, with a fashionista, Kelly, she quickly realizes how different her life truly will be.  Struggling to fit in and assimilate herself to big city life, Cassie seems to change everything: hair, diet, clothes, and friends.  But it’s certainly not all bad.  Cassie develops a lasting friendship with Bas, reconnects with Suzy’s little brother Henry, and even finds romance with a heart throb named Luke.  Henry decides that Cassie needs to experience New York life and develops a list of things for Cassie to do before heading on to her next city, Paris.  Cassie has the time of her life in New York and knows it will be difficult for her to leave, but leave she must.  Arriving in Paris, Cassie stays with uber sophisticated, Anouk, and yet again undergoes some changes in lifestyle.  Henry leaves her another list to direct her towards enjoying her stay and inadvertently leads her to a beautiful friendship with a gruff yet broken chef named Claude, a friendship Cassie can’t imagine life without.  But Paris brings with it difficulty and hardship and when Cassie finally arrives in London to stay with Suzy, she is yet again broken.  Being in London helps to rejuvenate her spirits, especially with Henry there to guide her around and show her how beautiful London can be.  As Henry and Cassie spend time together, old feelings surface, however, timing is not on their side.  Henry is engaged and Cassie’s husband Gil shows back up to try work things out.  Will Cassie choose the security and familiarity of her husband Gil or take a chance on life and choose a city to start over in for good even if it means being without Henry or Gil?

What a wonderful story about finding one’s self after divorce.  I enjoyed the complexity of the story line, with the changing characters and locations, the variety of personalities, and overall theme of triumph.  I struggled in the beginning with the way that Cassie’s friends seemed to be using her as a grown up Barbie doll, but as the story progressed, there was less emphasis on Cassie’s overall appearance and more on her changing personality.  I thoroughly enjoyed Cassie’s transformation and her ability to develop lasting relationships during each phase of the novel.  The brilliance of the lists helped to make Henry an integral part of the novel, while not keeping him an active player throughout the story.  Overall, an excellent read, and I am looking forward to reading more novels by Karen Swan!  Oh, and don’t let the title fool you, this is the perfect “anytime” book!

Book Description

Amber Jameson has always thought of her best friend Cade as an older brother. A really hot older brother. But growing up in foster care, she learned to rely only on herself. As much as she likes stealing glances at Cade’s chiseled jaw and painted-on jeans, she resents the way he swoops in like a superhero to fix things for her.

When former rodeo rival Jim Davis starts harassing Amber to sell her grandfather’s failing ranch, Cade swoops in once again. To send Jim on his way, Cade pretends to be Amber’s boyfriend, moving in to help fix the place up. With her grandfather behind the idea, Amber and Cade have to keep the charade going—whether she likes it or not.

But as their make-believe romance starts to heat up, maybe Cade and Amber will learn to admit that they both could use a little saving…

My Thoughts

This steamy story will have you enthralled from start to finish.

Amber is no stranger to struggle.  Hell, she’s done it most of her life.  But with the family farm struggling to survive and her grandpa’s ailing health, the last thing she needs is some cowboy sniffing around threating to make her sell it.  But that’s exactly what Jim Davis is doing.  When Cade finds out about Jim harassing Amber, he does the only thing that comes to mind to help her out, pretend to be moving in.  With the Mitchell’ support, there is no way Jim would be dumb enough to continue to harass Amber right?  The only problem is to make it believable, Cade is actually going to have to move in.  But that shouldn’t be a problem since Cade and Amber have been best friends for, well, forever.  Except, it IS a problem.  Cade and Amber have always admired each other’s physiques and now being together all of the time is making it impossible to keep from exploring all their options.  Especially when a little alcohol is involved.  Throw in a little family conflict and an unsolved mystery and Cade and Amber are completely unable to develop a sexual relationship, but will that be all they develop or will they both realize that they may have found the one thing that can make them whole again….each other.

I am a huge fan of best friends turn lover books, so yeah, I may be a little biased, but I LOVED this book.  I couldn’t put it down.  The vulnerability of both characters made for a heart-warming story with a lot of steamy between the sheets moments.  Amber’s background in foster care and then ultimately landing with her grandparents made her a bit insecure and a lot jaded, while Cade’s injury left him feeling inadequate and frustrated.  I also enjoyed the way both Amber and Cade struggled with defining their relationship, like whether hand holding was an acceptable action between the two of them, when sex clearly was.  I found those aspects of the book simply endearing.  I also enjoyed the family dynamics of the Mitchell’s and their extremely protective nature, even in the midst of a family crisis, they all still stuck together, no matter what.  The ongoing storyline of the “Silver Creek Romance” series is one that is fun to read, but not essential to know when reading this novel.  This novel is sure to leave you reaching for the fan one minute and the tissues the next!  Don’t miss this novel!

Book Description

Heir to an impressive title and fortune, Lord William Townshend, Earl of Harclay, is among the most disreputable rakes in England. Desperately bored by dull heiresses and tedious soirees, he seeks new excitement—with a dangerous scheme to steal the world’s most legendary gemstone from its owner, Thomas Hope. To his surprise, however, it’s not the robbery that sets his blood burning but the alluring lady from whom he pilfers the gem.

A string of bad luck has left the fate of Lady Violet Rutledge’s estate entirely in Hope’s scheming hands. So when his prized jewel disappears from around her neck, she has no choice but to track down the villain responsible for the theft. Only Harclay has his sights set on taking more from her than the necklace—and she’s tempted to surrender anything he desires…

Now, caught in a thrilling game of secrecy and seduction, Violet must find a way to protect her fortune—and her heart—before she loses both forever…

My Thoughts

A  Hillarious, Fast-Paced and Sexy novel from debut author Jessica Peterson.

Lord William Townshend, better known as Harclay, is bored.  So when the opportunity arises to stage a scene at a party and steal the Hope Diamond, he simply can’t resist.  It just sounds like so much fun.  He has no idea that the woman that is wearing the diamond, one Violet Rutledge, has an estate that is almost in ruins and that by stealing said diamond, he will essentially ruin her life.  When Violet enters the ballroom, she is captivated by Harclay, and spends some time talking with him.  When the lights go out and pandemonium ensues, Violet is thankful to have someone close to protect her, and the diamond.  That is until she realizes that it is gone.  And Violet is smart enough to realize that it was Harclay that took it, but the question is why?  And how on earth is she going to recover it while maintaining her standing as a lady?  As Violet tries to locate the diamond by breaking into Harclay’s home, he becomes more and more intrigued by her beauty and circumstance.  As the plot continues, Violet and Harclay engage in quite the passionate affair, all the while both deceiving the other.  When the truth finally comes out, will Violet be able to recover the diamond save her estate, and keep her heart at the same time?  And has Harclay finally found the one woman who will keep him on his toes and ultimately help him break out of the boredom that consumes him?

Wow, where to start?  First of all, if you’re looking for your run of the mill historical romance, then this probably isn’t the book for you.  However, if what you want is a historical romance laced with outrageous events that will have you laughing out loud and love scenes so steamy you’ll need a fan then look no further.  There are lots of events in this story and some of them are quite farfetched, but it’s a great story none the less.  If you can read this book and think of it as more of a historical comedy with lots of romance, then I think you will be able to enjoy this book a lot!  Violet’s character is strong and fun; Harclay’s a bit annoying but likeable in a cocky kind of way.  I enjoyed the fast-paced storyline and all the elements of surprise.  I would love to elaborate more, but in doing so, it would give away quite a bit of the story, so I would encourage you to take a chance with this debut author and have a laughing good time!  I will certainly be reading the next installment in the series!

Book Description

Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship.

Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans…

My Thoughts

When Emily graduated from vet school she’d dreamed of an internship in L.A, but unfortunately life has thrown her a curve ball.  She’s ending up in Sunshine Idaho.  Determined to make the best of it, Emily shows up at her job only to see the one guy she never thought she’d see again, her one night stand from a vet conference.  To make matters worse, he’s her boss and there is still a smoking hot attraction between them.  But staying in Sunshine isn’t in her plan, so it’s hands off.  If only she could stick to that.

When Wyatt sees Emily again, all he wants to do is touch her, hold her and get to know her.  But she invokes a strictly business relationship with him. That is until she discovers she can’t keep her hands off of him.  After a childhood of constant instability, Wyatt plans to put down deep roots in Sunshine.  He’d love to include Emily in those plans, but she’s counting down the days until she can leave.  So the only thing left to do is guard his heart and have a little fun while she’s there.  But as Emily and Wyatt work together during the day and heat up the sheets at night, will either of them able to keep from falling in love?

The newest novel in Jill Shalvis’ Animal Magnetism series, Then Came You, is sure to melt your heart and leave you craving more!  The chemistry between Emily and Wyatt is simply delicious!  I loved the way they tried and failed to keep their hands off each other.  The love scenes are sure to leave you fanning yourself!  I also liked Wyatt’s crazy sisters and the funny dynamic between them and Wyatt.  Emily’s commitment to her family is endearing.  I enjoyed the relationship between Emily and her sister Sara, their loyalty and openness to each other was pleasurable to read.  As a sucker for stray animals, I also enjoyed how Emily and Sara kept taking in all the animals they found, including a turtle!  The added suspense surrounding Emily’s neighbor gave the ending a bit of a twist that helped to add an additional layer to the storyline.  Another highly entertaining novel from Jill Shalvis!  I can’t wait to read more

Book Description

Montague has devoted his life to managing the wealth of London’s elite, but at a huge cost: a family of his own. Then the enticing Miss Violet Matcham seeks his help, and in the puzzle she presents him, he finds an intriguing new challenge professionally . . . and personally.

Violet, devoted lady-companion to the aging Lady Halstead, turns to Montague to reassure her ladyship that her affairs are in order. But the famous Montague is not at all what she’d expected—this man is compelling, decisive, supportive, and strong—everything Violet needs in a champion, a position to which Montague rapidly lays claim.

But then Lady Halstead is murdered and Violet and Montague, aided by Barnaby Adair, Inspector Stokes, Penelope, and Griselda, race to expose a cunning and cold-blooded killer who stalks closer and closer. Will Montague and Violet learn the shocking truth too late to seize their chance at enduring love?

My Thoughts

Miss Violet Matcham is the loyal companion to the aging Lady Halstead.  When Lady Halstead decides to put her affairs in order before her eventual death, she has no idea what mayhem she will create.  As Violet and Lady Halstead, along with her man of business, discover a possible error in her finances, they hire Montague to help get to the bottom of it.  When Lady Halstead is discovered dead, it becomes apparent that” error” and the investigation into it has led to her murder!  As Montague, Barnaby Adair, Inspector Stokes try to unravel the link between the two, more murders occur and it appears that Violet’s life may be in danger.  As Montague and Violet work together to solve the mystery, they also discover what they have been missing in their lives all along, each other.

If you’re looking for a historical murder mystery with a hint of romance, then this is the book for you.  While there is a significant amount of plot twists and mystery, it is a bit lacking on the romance side.  I also found this book to be rather slowly paced and had a bit too many details.  I was looking for a book with more romance and less mystery and detective work, so I was rather surprised by the lack of romantic development between Violet and Montague.  As there was quite a few scenes that focused on the romantic relationships of the other characters, I think that perhaps there was too much focus on them and not enough on the budding relationship between Violet and Montague.   The book was well written and thoroughly planned out with an intricate plot and story line.  The characters are also well detailed with in-depth backgrounds and great interaction.  The dialogue is witty and fun and fairly easy to follow.  Another complex mystery for the “Casebook of Barnaby Adair Novel” Series by Stephanie Laurens.

Book Description

The men in Texas are hard to resist . . .

Seattle event planner Allison Lane is an expert at delivering the perfect wedding—even if she might not exactly believe in the whole “’til death do us part” thing. When her father decides to tie the knot with a woman he barely knows, Allison heads to Sweet, Texas, to make sure his new honey is the real deal. What she didn’t expect to find at the local honky-tonk was a sexy Southern man as bent on charming her pants off as he is on blowing her “true love doesn’t exist” theory all to hell.

And they always promise . . .

Veterinarian, former Marine, and Sweet’s favorite playboy Jesse Wilder takes one look at Allison and knows she’s a handful of trouble he can’t deny. But even after a sizzling kiss and obvious mutual attraction, it seems Allison has no such problem. When Jesse uncovers her sweet side, can he crush his playboy image, melt her cynical heart, and change her mind about taking a trip down the aisle?

My Thoughts

Allison Lane can’t believe that her dad has ended up in the middle of nowhere and is now planning to marry a woman he barely knows.  So she does the only thing a good responsible daughter would do, she heads down to Sweet, Texas to get to know the woman herself.  But when she walks into the local bar, she lays eyes on one sexy cowboy.  Unfortunately, getting into bed with the locals is not the reason she’s there.  Jesse Wilder knows that the sexy, guarded lady he finds himself dancing with is not from Sweet.  He also recognizes that she’s got commitment and trust issues but since she’s not sticking around, he’s not getting involved.  That is until the sexy girl from the bar shows up at his family home with his future step-dad.  As Allison and Jesse are forced to spend a little time together, they realize they are quite attracted to one another, but just as soon as she meets and assesses Jana Wilder, Jesse’s mom, she’s headed out of town.   When a crisis threatens to put the breaks on Reno and Charli’s wedding, Allison finds herself offering to stick around and help work out the kinks, after all, event planning is what she does.  But staying in town means that she’ll have to spend time with Jesse.  And Jesse is determined to convince Allison that true love does exist and help break down her carefully erected walls. As Jesse pulls out all the stops to show Allison what true love is all about, can Allison guard her heart from Jesse or will she helplessly fall in love?

The latest novel in Candis Terry’s Sweet, Texas series, Something Sweeter, is sure to leave you with a smile on your face and love in your heart!  Jesse and Allison’s story is nothing short of heart-warming!  I loved the way that Jesse’s playboy reputation both helps and hurts his relationship with Allison and finally watching him fall head over heels in love was everything I expected it to be!  With Allison’s past experiences with love and growing up with a narcissistic mother, she guards heart, yet still manages to let Jesse in.  I loved that she was eventually willing to take that chance and find what she’d always wanted.  Revisiting the characters from the previous novels in the series was very enjoyable.  I enjoyed catching up with Charlie and Reno, Abby and Jackson and of course, the meddling Jana!  I am looking forward to the next book in this series!  This is a series that I will be reading again and again.

Book Description

England, 1814

When Winifred is rescued from her snow-stranded carriage by the notorious and reclusive Alistair, Marquess of Coventry, she is instantly drawn to him. Jilted by her betrothed and socially ruined by untrue rumors, Winifred is tired of paying for crimes she didn’t commit and decides to play the seductress London society claims she is. Thinking a night of passion shouldn’t leave any lasting effects, she instead finds her heart marked forever.

Six years later, Alistair is working for the Regent as a spy. A search for Napoleon’s English supporters leads him to the beguiling Winifred, recently widowed with a young son. He hasn’t forgotten how the unconventional beauty warmed his bed, and the heat between them rekindles immediately. The spymaster is determined to uncover all of plucky Winifred’s secrets. Especially the one regarding her son…

My Thoughts

A quick paced, romance rich, novella that will hook you from start to finish.

On a snowy Christmas Eve, Winifred finds herself stranded beside the road with little hope of a rescuer.  When the notorious Alistair, Marquess of Coventry, comes along, she has little choice but to go with him to his estate to wait out the storm.  She finds herself quite attracted to him, though his manner is less than amicable.  When the opportunity arises, Winifred decides to take advantage of the situation, and her already ruined reputation, and engage in a night of passion with the handsome, yet mysterious Marquess.  But she gets a little more than she’s bargained for.

Years later, Winifred, now a widow, finds Alistair on her doorstep, searching for maps belonging to her now deceased husband.  Knowing that he works for the Crown, she eventually decides to let him in, but knows she must protect her secret, her son.  As the two decide to engage in an affair, they each discover that they’ve fallen in love, but neither will admit it.  When a plot twist occurs that forces Winifred and her son Oliver to stay at a friend of Alistair’s house for their safety, Winifred’s secret comes out.  But when Alistair comes face to face with Oliver, will he be able to see what is so obvious?  And will he be able to accept his fate and admit his love for Winifred despite his dark and painful past?

What a fabulously written and intriguing novella by Robyn Dehart! Because it is a novella, it is a very quick read but has such an engaging storyline that you won’t want to put it down!  I loved the dynamic between Alistair and Winifred and how she saw through his gruff and quiet exterior to the wonderful, caring man within.  I also appreciated the way that Alistair’s childhood difficulties helped him learn how to interact and love Oliver.  It was such a touching moment when Oliver finally spoke that I was smiling as I read!  I loved everything about this novella and can’t wait to read more by Ms. Dehart!

Book Description

A mysterious photograph, lethal swans, gushy beds and a kitschy lovers resort in the Pocono Mountains. Can you say single woman in hell?

My Thoughts

When Lexi Sheridan stumbled onto an old photograph, she was hoping it would change her journalist career, little did she know, it would change her whole life.

Lexi is a struggling journalist who needs a great breakout story that will launch her career.  While digging through an old photo album at the library, she discovers a hidden picture.  A picture of a famous family who has thus far, remained scandal free.  Knowing there has to be an amazing story behind the photo, Lexi sets out to Heart River Inn to find the man in the picture.  What happens next is something she’d never expect.  Not only does she locate Mr. Bernard, the man in the photo and the owner of Heart River Inn, she also meets several very unique couples who are staying at the romantic resort, and one sexy-as-hell manager, Jared Richardson.  As Lexi begins to talk with the guest staying at the resort, she realizes that it is much more than a bed and breakfast.  It seems that all the guest have a special connection with place, that this is the place that saved their relationship.  Skeptical of true love, Lexi just wants to get the big story and head out, but she can’t quite seem to be bold enough to show Mr. Bernard the photo and demand his story.  Especially when she gets to hang out with Jared.  Every time she gets close to Mr. Bernard or Jared crazy, wild events occur that keep her from getting the answers she seeks and it seems that everyone is fiercely protective of Mr. Bernard.  When she finally gets up the nerve to ask the hard hitting questions, will she get the answers she seeks or will she lose not only her job, but her new friendships as well?

A funny, lighthearted, and entertaining read by Ms. McKade!  I enjoyed reading this novel and thought it was simply great!  Each chapter seems to focus on a new couple that Lexi meets and the story behind them and their connection to Mr. Bernard and the inn.  The budding relationship between Lexi and Jared is sweet and funny, as Lexi can’t seem to be anything but clumsy and accident prone around him!  I liked Lexi’s kind spirit and thought it was sweet how she couldn’t bring herself to hurt Mr. Bernard by demanding answers about the picture and printing the story.  I would have liked to see a little bit more romantic development between Jared and Lexi, as the ending seemed a bit far-fetched and rushed, but overall I enjoyed the story and would read it again.  It’s a quick read that is sure to give you a few laughs and just make you feel good.  I look forward to reading more novels from Ms. McKade!

Book Description

Seven days. And seven rules to break…

In this romance novel from Gina L. Maxwell, District Attorney Vanessa MacGregor firmly believes that structure and order are the stuff that dreams are made of. Happiness can be planned—and it starts with the seven rules she’s laid out for her future. But as she’s organizing her best friend’s wedding in Hawaii, all of Vanessa’s best-laid plans are about to meet their match in a wickedly hot MMA fighter…

Jackson “Jax” Maris is focused on surfing, training, and fighting. That is, until he opens up his big mouth and finds himself having to pretend he’s engaged to his little sister’s best friend, Vanessa. When they’re forced to share a romantic bungalow, however, their little charade suddenly takes a turn for the seriously sexy. And while Jax is definitely not part of Vanessa’s long-term plan, he has seven days—and seven naughty nights—to turn her seven-rule plan upside down.

My Thoughts

Gina Maxwell provides another swoon-worthy novel with a super hot MMA fighter as our starring hero.

Vanessa MacGregor is no stranger to the hard life.  And to ensure that she never has to live through it again, she develops her seven rules to live by.  Rules that will keep her safe and secure.  That is until she arrives in Hawai’i and meets her best friend’s hot-as-hell older brother.  Jackson, or Jax, is supposed to be helping Vanessa make sure that all the details are in order for Lucie and Reid’s upcoming wedding, but all he seems to be doing is turning her on and making himself a nuisance.  The more time she’s around him, the more rules she finds she’s ready to break.  So when she learns that they are supposed to be pretending to be Lucie and Reid, she realizes there is no way she’s going to be able to share a bungalow with this man and keep her distance too.  So why not engage in an ultra-steamy fling with the sexy male that seems to be around her all the time?  As long as she sticks to her rules, she’ll be fine…..right?

The moment Jax laid eyes on the beautiful red-haired Vanessa, he knew he wanted to get to know her better.  And when Vanessa opened her mouth?  He knew that the only way he stood a chance at that is to make her be around him.  Vanessa not only was confident, sexy, and a tad bit bossy, she was the only woman he’d ever met that dismissed him….HIM!  A MMA fighter who can have any girl he wants.  So what if he tells her a little lie like saying they have to pretend to be Reid and Lucie in order to make sure all the plans are in order?  It can’t be that big of a deal right?  But when Vanessa and Jax spend time together, Jax realizes that there is so much more to Vanessa than what she presents to the world and he begins to fall for her….hard.  Jax knows he should tell her that he lied to her, but he can’t seem to find the right way, or time and he’s not willing to give her up a moment before he has to.  But when a phone call comes in with a family emergency for Vanessa, the truth will come out.  But can Vanessa allow herself to break her rules for a chance at love with Jax or will she push him away and continue with her life, business as usual?

Looking for a picturesque location with breath taking romance and a whole lot of fun?  Then Gina Maxwell’s next “Fighting for Love” novel is the one for you.  This one will provide you with lots of steamy love scenes with comical dialogue and sexy banter.  I enjoyed Vanessa’s desperate attempt to hold onto herself and her rules, while ultimately losing that battle and falling for Jax.  The backstory of her life is so heartbreaking, yet inspiring, that I felt like it gave her character a great sense of realism.  I also enjoyed getting to know Jax’s character with his hard edge yet protective and loving side toward both Vanessa and his little sister Lucie.  I couldn’t help but turn page after page to find out what was going to happen between Vanessa and Jax and how their story would end. An exceptionally well written and entertaining novel by Gina L. Maxwell.
