“MASQUERADE WITH A MARQUESS: Regency Romp 3 With a Spark of Suspense” by Cerise DeLand. While, Book 3, it can be read as a stand alone. Fast paced, well written with well developed characters and a unique storyline.
This is Victor Cameron and Sophia di Contini’s story, and what a story, full of surprises, intrigue, passion, mystery, a bit of suspense, one family’s missing Art pieces from France, and romance. There are a few twists and turns along the way. Ms. DeLand is a talented author, who brought Regency England and the travesty of the French Terror to life through the pages and lives of her characters.
While, I felt Sophia was a bit selfish and careless, at times, she was a lovely Lady, trying to right wrongs perpetrated upon her family and loved ones. Victor, was a bit overbearing at times, as he had loved Sophia for years and still does, he only wants to help her in her quest and love her forever. But will Sophia’s secrecy, and determination not to lose another person she loves, cause a rift in their blossoming love?
After reading this story, I do feel the reader would understand better Sophia’s behavior, her family’s deaths, and more of what actually happened during that time in France, by reading the other two stories in the series first. I think the reader might more on her family’s duplicity during the French Terror, which the author touches on in this story.
Readers of Historical Mystery, a bit of suspense and romance, will find themselves turning pages, as they learn the secrets of Sophia di Contini and why she’s really in England, and why all the secrecy.
Well worth the time to read. A wonderful romp through Regency England. A must read! Enjoyable and satisfying read! I can’t wait for the next installment.
