The House of Pleasure, #2

Happily-ever-afters don’t always begin at “I do.”

When the man of her dreams rescues Lady Juliet Ferrers from the villain claiming to be her husband, she is sure she has found her one true love. But is she free to marry him? Not to be deterred, Juliet arranges for her hero to escort her to her family estate in far off Northern England—hoping that along the way she can win his love—and his hand…

Captivated by Juliet’s sweetness and beauty, Captain Amiable Dawson can’t help but be spellbound by the promise of a life with her. But the spell breaks when questions arise about her marital status. Soon the upstanding Amiable is unsure if he is indeed married to Juliet. And when his rival absconds with her, Amiable must choose between the law of the land and his heart’s desire to rescue Juliet once more…

ONLY MARRIAGE WILL DO by Jenna Jaxon is an interesting Georgian Historical Romance set in 1761 England. #1 in the “House of Pleasure” series, but can be read as a stand along. See, “Only Scandal Will Do”.  I would suggest Book 1 in this series first, however, it is not necessary to enjoy “Only Marriage Will Do”.

The House of Pleasure is a brothel house, which is featured in Book 1 and gives the reader insight into the scandalously meeting of Juliet’s brother, Duncan and his  wife, Katarina. The Ferrers has a scandalous past.

Meet, Lady Juliet Ferrers and Captain Amiable Dawson.  I had a hard time liking Juliet, she is conniving, whiny, and immature, at first, but she finds her own after a bit. Amiable, is constantly saving Juliet from one disaster to another. Then there is the question of rather, Juliet was married by proxy to a Frenchman, Phillipe St. Cyr.

Can true love win out, or will the law of the land win out in the end? Can Amiable save Juliet or will he lose her forever?

A good romance with a bit of suspense and lots of passion. A steady paced tale with a few twists and turns. You either love the characters or hate them entirely, there is no in between.

I enjoyed this tale of love, passion, and romance. While, a bit predictable, it was enjoyable, the characters are complex, or rather the relationship between Amiable and Juliet is, there is a bit of intrigue and suspense. Overall, an enjoyable read!
