Book Description

Amber Jameson has always thought of her best friend Cade as an older brother. A really hot older brother. But growing up in foster care, she learned to rely only on herself. As much as she likes stealing glances at Cade’s chiseled jaw and painted-on jeans, she resents the way he swoops in like a superhero to fix things for her.

When former rodeo rival Jim Davis starts harassing Amber to sell her grandfather’s failing ranch, Cade swoops in once again. To send Jim on his way, Cade pretends to be Amber’s boyfriend, moving in to help fix the place up. With her grandfather behind the idea, Amber and Cade have to keep the charade going—whether she likes it or not.

But as their make-believe romance starts to heat up, maybe Cade and Amber will learn to admit that they both could use a little saving…

My Thoughts

This steamy story will have you enthralled from start to finish.

Amber is no stranger to struggle.  Hell, she’s done it most of her life.  But with the family farm struggling to survive and her grandpa’s ailing health, the last thing she needs is some cowboy sniffing around threating to make her sell it.  But that’s exactly what Jim Davis is doing.  When Cade finds out about Jim harassing Amber, he does the only thing that comes to mind to help her out, pretend to be moving in.  With the Mitchell’ support, there is no way Jim would be dumb enough to continue to harass Amber right?  The only problem is to make it believable, Cade is actually going to have to move in.  But that shouldn’t be a problem since Cade and Amber have been best friends for, well, forever.  Except, it IS a problem.  Cade and Amber have always admired each other’s physiques and now being together all of the time is making it impossible to keep from exploring all their options.  Especially when a little alcohol is involved.  Throw in a little family conflict and an unsolved mystery and Cade and Amber are completely unable to develop a sexual relationship, but will that be all they develop or will they both realize that they may have found the one thing that can make them whole again….each other.

I am a huge fan of best friends turn lover books, so yeah, I may be a little biased, but I LOVED this book.  I couldn’t put it down.  The vulnerability of both characters made for a heart-warming story with a lot of steamy between the sheets moments.  Amber’s background in foster care and then ultimately landing with her grandparents made her a bit insecure and a lot jaded, while Cade’s injury left him feeling inadequate and frustrated.  I also enjoyed the way both Amber and Cade struggled with defining their relationship, like whether hand holding was an acceptable action between the two of them, when sex clearly was.  I found those aspects of the book simply endearing.  I also enjoyed the family dynamics of the Mitchell’s and their extremely protective nature, even in the midst of a family crisis, they all still stuck together, no matter what.  The ongoing storyline of the “Silver Creek Romance” series is one that is fun to read, but not essential to know when reading this novel.  This novel is sure to leave you reaching for the fan one minute and the tissues the next!  Don’t miss this novel!
