A Hillarious, Fast-Paced and Sexy novel from debut author Jessica Peterson.
Lord William Townshend, better known as Harclay, is bored. So when the opportunity arises to stage a scene at a party and steal the Hope Diamond, he simply can’t resist. It just sounds like so much fun. He has no idea that the woman that is wearing the diamond, one Violet Rutledge, has an estate that is almost in ruins and that by stealing said diamond, he will essentially ruin her life. When Violet enters the ballroom, she is captivated by Harclay, and spends some time talking with him. When the lights go out and pandemonium ensues, Violet is thankful to have someone close to protect her, and the diamond. That is until she realizes that it is gone. And Violet is smart enough to realize that it was Harclay that took it, but the question is why? And how on earth is she going to recover it while maintaining her standing as a lady? As Violet tries to locate the diamond by breaking into Harclay’s home, he becomes more and more intrigued by her beauty and circumstance. As the plot continues, Violet and Harclay engage in quite the passionate affair, all the while both deceiving the other. When the truth finally comes out, will Violet be able to recover the diamond save her estate, and keep her heart at the same time? And has Harclay finally found the one woman who will keep him on his toes and ultimately help him break out of the boredom that consumes him?
Wow, where to start? First of all, if you’re looking for your run of the mill historical romance, then this probably isn’t the book for you. However, if what you want is a historical romance laced with outrageous events that will have you laughing out loud and love scenes so steamy you’ll need a fan then look no further. There are lots of events in this story and some of them are quite farfetched, but it’s a great story none the less. If you can read this book and think of it as more of a historical comedy with lots of romance, then I think you will be able to enjoy this book a lot! Violet’s character is strong and fun; Harclay’s a bit annoying but likeable in a cocky kind of way. I enjoyed the fast-paced storyline and all the elements of surprise. I would love to elaborate more, but in doing so, it would give away quite a bit of the story, so I would encourage you to take a chance with this debut author and have a laughing good time! I will certainly be reading the next installment in the series!
