SECOND CHANCE… The Marchioness of Wick is about to get a second chance at life…whether she wants it or not. After twenty years in a loveless marriage to a duplicitous British aristocrat, Claire Heyworth Barnes finds herself broke and alone. Encouraged by her dynamic American sisters-in-law, the shy royal decides to start over in New York City. When she lands a job with a famous interior designer, Claire accidentally reconnects with the first—and only—man she ever loved. FIRST LOVE… Benjamin Hayek has never forgiven Claire for the heartless way she left him when they were teenagers in the south of France. And even if he could, Claire’s not sure she has the courage to contend with how he makes her feel. Can they build a new love from an old flame? Or will a bitter history and a complicated future stand in their way?
Looking for a modern twist on historical romances with all the brash and blunt dialogue we love? In Love Again by Megan Mulry has all of that and a whole lot more!
When Claire’s marriage falls apart, she’s forced to regroup and rebuild. In an attempt to accomplish just that, Claire heads to America and does something she’s never done before…get a job! As Claire learns how to conduct herself as a single, employed lady, she begins to grow and redefine herself. When she lands a big case at work, she realizes that the client she’ll be working with is none other than the man she met the summer before her marriage, Ben Hayek! After spending the summer together in the south of France, Ben wakes up one morning to find that Claire is gone…and without even a good-bye. Her hasty departure is something he’s never quite forgiven her for, even though he’s sure she probably doesn’t even remember him. As Ben and Claire rekindle their relationship and work through their pasts, they discover that there’s still quite the fire between them. But Claire’s scheming and deceitful husband threatens to put in jeopardy everything that Claire has worked so hard for, even her relationship with her grown daughter. Claire and Ben must find a way to overcome everything that conspires to keep them apart.
If you’ve read any of the other Unruly Royals Novels by Megan Mulry, you’re probably thinking, “How in the world am I going to like Claire as the main character?” But Ms. Mulry did a fabulous job of redefining the reader’s perception of her without really changing the character! I absolutely loved the dynamics between Claire and Ben, especially when Ben was still trying to work through his issues of inferiority towards Claire and her well-to-do family. I enjoyed getting more backstory about Claire and all the expectations her mother expected her to live up to. And of course, getting more sass and comedy from Bronte and Sarah were an extra bonus! I also thought the bit about the pending divorce between Claire and Freddy was a great way to add a bit of suspense and helped to keep the story very entertaining. Overall, this is just a very enjoyable read, and while it is part of the series, it’s also a GREAT standalone! This one is just plain fun! Received for an honest review.
