The last place he expected to find lasting love was back in his hometown.
Slater knew tragedy from a young age, but with the support of his foster family, he turned his life around. Now, back from a stint in the Navy, he’s packed up his motorcycle and returned to Red Hook to help to run the family restaurant—a job that comes with a tantalizing upside. Her name is Rocki.
Flirty, sweet, and outgoing, Rocki brings in crowds as the lead singer of the house band. And although she’s unable to resist the charms of this intense bad boy, she refuses to open her heart to him. Until a family crisis shatters Rocki’s easygoing demeanor, exposing something from her past she’d always hoped would stay hidden.
But Slater knows a thing or two about family secrets—and he sets out to prove to Rocki that their relationship could finally give them both a future worth believing in.
Slater’s past is just that, his past. So returning to Red Hook to help out his foster family while his dad recovers isn’t his idea of a good time. He’s counting down the days until he gets his contract with OPEC to go to Bahrain and start his new job. That is until he lays eyes on Rocki. He can’t believe how sexy she is, and he certainly can’t understand why she’s wasting her talent in a bar in Red Hook when she could be bringing in big bucks singing in New York City…unless she’s hiding something. As a computer geek, he’s able to break any code, breech any security wall and find the information he’s looking for. So why can’t he crack Rocki’s code? And why is she so determined to keep her distance from him when there is obviously an attraction?
Rocki has work hard over the past three years to develop relationships and friendships in Red Hook. Everything was going perfect until one sexy ex-navy man on a bike showed up and rocked her world. His raw animal magnetism is not something she can ignore, despite her best efforts. Not only is he Pete’s son, and therefore off limits, he’s also the one person who can bring her world crashing down. Rocki knows that as soon as Slater starts digging around in her past, he’ll learn her secrets and expose her for who she really is. And Rocki is not ready for that. But when Rocki receives a call that her brother has been in a serious accident and Slater drives her home, she is forced to spend time with Slater and share her secrets with him. Will he accept her for who he is or push her away because she has deceived everyone he cares about? And when Slater’s dark past rears its ugly head again, will Slater finally be able to lay his demons to rest and learn to live and love again?
Such a wonderful story of overcoming tragedy and learning to live again. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll fall in love with the characters of the Red Hook Series all over again. A very well written novel by Robin Kaye. The storyline and characters are rich and real. It’s not often that I cry at the end of a novel, but this book had me reaching for the tissues, both tears of sadness for what Slater had to go through, and tears of joy for sweet Nicki. I was so invested and involved with the plot that while I couldn’t read this book in one sitting, I was picking it up every chance I got just to squeeze in a few more pages. From Rocki and Slater to Pete and little Nicki, you will feel like you really know them by the end of the story. This book will definitely pull on your heart strings. I absolutely loved this story and can’t wait to read more by Robin Kaye.
