Lady Triona McKee’s life is under desperate siege. The marriage she thought would answer her dreams has left her struggling alone to provide for her people, while an arrogant kinsman prepares to take her land. But one look into the cynical green eyes of her cousin’s boldest knight warns Triona that even a promise of help is just as dangerous…Betrayal taught Sir Brett Murray to make protecting others his only life. Still, the growing desire he can’t help but feel for this entrancing widow makes him long to earn more than her trust. But in trying to save all she cherishes, he can’t see how an honor-scarred knight can stay in her world and her heart…unless he risks everything to prove his love is now and forever always…
HIGHLAND MASTER by Hannah Howell is another intriguing Medival Scottish Historical Romance. *First time in print* This is the story of Lady Triona McKee,Laird of the Clan McKee and her Knight in Shining armor, although, she doesn’t know it yet, Sir Brett Murray. Lady Triona is being plagued by disasters, one after the other. First, a plague/illness carries off half her clan, including her husband, the Laird, leaving her the new Laird. Then the fighting men hire out to France,to send much needed money back to help their kinsmen. Or did they? Than you have the neighbor who believes he should be Laird, therefore, he is stealing her livestock, burning her fields, and other things, all in the name of trying to force her to marry him, so he can get his grubby hands on her land. Oh, I forget to mention, he is a little crazy and believes the land should be his, although, his ancestors where traitors to the King and forfeited the land. Oh, I also, forgot to mention, that some do not believe a woman can be Laird over a clan, although, she has managed the clan for years.
Arianna, Triona’s cousin appears on her doorstep with several highland warriors in tow, running from her beloved husband. One of her kinsman is Sir Brett, who has sworn never to love, but he is deeply attracted to Triona and her mischievous little daughter, Ella, steals his heart. He and his fellow warriors have sworn to protect her and her clan, find out who is doing what and why.
Fast paced, action packed story of love, grief, guilt, treason, treachery, danger, passion and love. A must read! Once again, Ms. Howell has written a story full of Highland tradition, strong heroes, and strong-willed heroines. If you enjoy Scotland, Highlanders, and of course the Murrays, than “Highland Master” is a story not to be missed. I would strongly suggest reading this fast paced story of love, a mother’s sacrifice for her child, healing, forgiving oneself, and the power of true love.
