MIDNIGHT TEMPATIONS WITH A FORBIDDEN LORD

TIFFANY CLARE

Genre: Historical Romance (Regency)

Series: Dangerous Rogues Series Book 2

Source: Received for an honest review from the publisher

Publisher: St. Martin’s Press

Print Length: 325 pages

Published date: April 30, 2013

Book Description (from amazon)

Tristan Bradley, the notorious Marquess of Castleigh, is a danger to any woman’s reputation. Devastatingly handsome and devilishly seductive, he delights in the challenge of a lovely new conquest—especially when she’s engaged to a man he despises. But when this particular young lady asks him to dance, Tristan realizes he may not be the only one playing a game.

Defiantly bold and disarmingly beautiful, Lady Charlotte Lindsey will do anything to break free from her loathsome fiancé—even destroy her good name to do it. What better way to seal the deal than a tryst with Lord Tristan, who’s led many a girl to ruin? But when Charlotte looks into his eyes—and Tristan takes her in his arms—all of their schemes melt away…because the heart has a plan of its own.

My Thoughts

When Charlotte Lindsey sets her mind to ruin herself instead of marry the man her father has chosen, she enlists the help of a notorious rogue. But much to her surprise, he’s not quite the man she thought he was. Tristan Bradley’s name has been attached to scandal after scandal, but does he deserve the infamous reputation he has earned?

As Charlotte and Tristan devise a plan to help her succeed in ending her nuptials with a man she despises, they find that they are quite drawn to each other. Can they end her engagement to one man without finding themselves at the alter themselves?

Having read the first book in this series, Wicked Nights with a Proper Lady, I was very excited to read the next book, Midnight Temptations with a Forbidden Lord. However, it was not quite the book I was hoping for. The first half of the book was set at the same time as the first book in the series, only Tristan and Charlotte’s side of the events. As this was the case, I would not recommend this as a stand-alone book because you are missing a great of the overlapping plot, having not read Leo and Genny’s story.

When the book finally diverges from the time sequence in Wicked Nights, it seemed to have lost a lot of the momentum. As you continue reading, it finally started to develop its own storyline and action, just before the book ends abruptly, leaving you wondering exactly where the ending to the story was. There was no epilogue to tie up any loose ends, which seemed to mean if you want closure from a lot of the characters in the story, you must buy the third book in the series; which is scheduled to be released in 2014.

Hopefully the third book will provide the answers needed for the questions that are left open at the end of this book. If you liked Wicked Nights with a Proper Lady, I would recommend that you read this book, so that you can continue the stories of these three dangerous rogues. This book was received from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review.

When Liv Crawford decided to pursue her dream of owning her own bakery, it was no surprise that she forgot to add “maintaining a serious relationship” to her business plan. Not when she believes a cupcake can fix anything, even loneliness.

Jake Miller isn’t concerned about being lonely. He’s cast aside his playboy lifestyle to pursue something more meaningful, his passion for photography. So, when his boss asks him to pursue a beautiful woman and coerce her to his office for a disguised meeting—no matter what it takes—in exchange for the opportunity to turn his hobby into a career, he jumps at the chance. At first sight, Liv awakens his long-buried desire for commitment, but his secret mission could ruin his hopes of keeping her.

Despite Liv’s commitment to swear off relationships to run her bakery, Jake quickly becomes her number one distraction. Yet, even her misgivings can’t tame the heat as they straddle the line between love and ambition.

Liv had a dream to become a bakery owner. Never did she dream of a happily ever after with a man; not after being hurt by the man in her life that she should have been able to count on, her father. That was when Jake came into the picture. The hottest man she had ever see came through the door at the bar she was working at. Jake turned out to be quite the distraction to Liv, the hopefully up and coming bakery owner. Liv had been through so much hurt and pain from loved ones, she could not handle having her heart-broken again. That was when she realized the people around her were not who she thought they were.

A great love story, this book was filled with sex and cupcakes, what a great combo. If I had to critique, the only thing I would have loved to see was a copy of the cupcake recipes that were talked about in the book. A recommended read.

Book Description (from Amazon.com)

The Cougar Diaries is a year in the life of Aoife Brennan, A newly single woman, Dubliner and mother to two teenage boys – she has to fight for her way of life, overcome the antiquated legal divorce system, secure a fair future from her estranged ex and LIVE! This is about a woman living and loving again, making mistakes, embracing life and giving it lots of welly!

My Thoughts:

THE COUGAR DIARIES, Part 1 introduced us to Aoife Brennan, a single mother of two teenage boys who had been separated for 5 years. She was struggling financially and really had no social life. Her best friend Trish decided it was time to get her out and that was truly where the fun began.

This was a great book. It had some pretty steamy areas along with BDSM. I found myself laughing one minute and mad the next. It was definitely a page turner for me. I was cheering for Aoife. Having her describe the online dating experience was hilarious but so true. The way Ms. Brennan ends it, is perfect. It leaves you hanging and wanting more. Good thing this was only Part 1 because I would have been very disappointed. I am looking forward to reading Part II.

Shaken by an unwanted divorce, FBI Special Agent Kit McGovern retreats to her grandmother’s Virginia island home for a little R & R. But her vacation comes to an unexpected end when the body of a young Latino boy is found on the beach.
Kit teams up with D.C. cop David O’Connor to investigate the murder with the smallest of clues—tomato seeds and acorns found in the boy’s pockets. Using plant DNA evidence, Kit traces the young boy to a huge farm where more than a killer looms. With grit, determination, and a growing interest in David, Kit pursues her case and discovers that, to truly move forward in life, justice has to be tempered with mercy.

Trying to get away from the pressures of being a FBI agent and after a recent divorce from her husband, Kit just wanted to get away. While on her vacation, Kit stumbles across the dead body of a young boy washed up on the sand. While at the discovery, Kit is also helped by off-duty cop David. The two of them become close, but not to close. Kit is a Christian and vows not to be with non-Christian man. Determined to find the killer, Kit is thrown into an investigation that brought on more questions than answers.

This book is the first Christian/Suspense I have read. I only hope they are all this good. The book had me thinking about it when I was not reading it and I was able to read it in no time. It kept me interested to find out what would happen next. All of my questions were answered by the end of the book. A great read, I would highly recommend.

The Average American Marriage, the long-awaited sequel to Chad Kultgen’s much debated, always controversial The Average American Male, is a matter-of-fact foray into the male mind and sexual fantasy.

Now married with children, Kultgen’s lewd and sex-obsessed narrator once again offers up his deep (and not so deep) thoughts on love, marriage, kids, and (naturally) sex: from birthday sex to interns to parenting, The Average American Male looks upon the institution of marriage with the same deadpan smirk he has brought to the rest of his sex-addled, perennially disaffected life.

My Thoughts:

THE AVERAGE AMERICAN MARRIAGE was hilarious. I was hooked as soon as I read the “first” chapter…”same old bullshit”. Well with a chapter like that and literally that was it, who wouldn’t turn the page. I was laughing so hard through parts of it just because it was probably so true. This was from a guy’s perspective of course. It was pretty graphic and readers who do not like profanity would not enjoy it. It was just an overall fun and hilarious read. I don’t think I would take it to literally though as some people might.

In the scorching summer of 1911, London is a hotbed of political activity as women fight for their equality and Germany starts to pose a dangerous threat. But Dody McCleland, England’s first female autopsy surgeon, has more immediate concerns–such as finding out who’s trying to frame her for murder…

A distraught scullery maid appears at Dody’s Women’s Clinic begging for an abortion. It turns out she has a case of lead poisoning, which Dody believes she took to induce a miscarriage. Instead of reporting the girl to the authorities, Dody decides to counsel her and prescribes an antidote. But days later, the maid is found dead from a bungled criminal abortion–and the coroner receives a series of anonymous letters accusing Dody of the crime.

Now, Dody has to find out who has framed her for the maid’s murder–or else she’ll be embroiled in a criminal trial. Chief Inspector Pike is working undercover on another case, playing the piano for an exotic dancer who may be spying for the Germans, but when he hears Dody’s in trouble, he insists on lending a hand. But as Pike and Dody are about to discover, she’s not only fighting for her career, but for her life, too…

MY THOUGHTS:

ANTIDOTE TO MURDER by Felicity Young is an interesting Edwardian London Historical Mystery set in 1911 England. #2 of the “A Dody McCleland Mystery” series, but can be read as a stand alone. See,”A Dissection of Murder”,buyer beware The Anatomy of Death and A Dissection of Murder are the same book“.

Follow Dody McCleland and Chief Inspector Pike on a journey of with a German spy, murder, criminal abortions, illicit drug trade, erotic dancers, and the life of a female coroner. Dody is the first British female autopsy surgeon. With a bit of romance and lots of murder, for someone is butchering pregnant women, using illicit drugs and implicating Dody for the murders. From government to the slums of London, you will find you are not only intrigued but transported to a time when woman had to fight for their rights. Ms. Young’s story will draw the reader in,hold you there until the very end while transporting you to a different era. Dody and Inspector Pike must find the truth about the murders, find a rogue doctor, and stop a spy all before Dody loses not only her career but her very life. All of this while Dody ad Pike’s love is blossoming or trying too. Fast paced and filled with action with a cast of characters that will keep you turning pages from the first sentence to the last. Don’t let the first sentence derail you,”Antidote to Murder” is not written in first person. I would recommend “Antidote to Murder” to historical readers as well as readers of mystery, medical mysteries, and those who enjoy a great read.
Magazine Description (from radiosilence website)

Radio Silence is literature and rock & roll. We publish a print magazine with new work by writers and musicians, put on badass live events, and present news, podcasts, and other media here on the website.

Issue 2 features Bruce Springsteen, Robert Pinsky, Ray Bradbury, Edith Wharton, Dana Gioia, Don Carpenter, Andrew Beaujon, Jennie Fields, Adrian McKinty, Myla Goldberg, Zach Rogue, Benjamin Hedin, Tift Merritt, Rick Moody, Thao Nguyen, David Remnick, Tim Riley, Siegfried Sassoon, and Jim White.

My Thoughts:

Radio Silence was an interesting read for a magazine. It had various types of literary works which were truly interesting. I really enjoyed the interview with Bruce Springsteen and Robert Pinsky. I had no idea who Don Carpenter was and found myself doing a google search to learn more. Reading Confessions of a 21st Century Phonographile brought back memories when we used to listen to our LPs. I never realized there was a radio station that played the really old music. Once again I was doing the google search. Musics buffs, literary buffs should subscribe. You wont be disappointed.

Book Description (from Amazon.com)

With this newest collection of irreverent short stories Manion once again asks the reader to get off the bench and get into the game as he dishes out laughs, offense and even a few poignant moments. There is no point to be made here. Only the hope that somewhere amidst all the run-on sentences, unnecessary profanity and poor grammar, readers will come away with some unique thoughts of their own. Perfect reading for artists, commuters and people who spend an inordinate amount of time on the toilet. Some writers pander to their audience and write whatever it is they think will sell. Others are bold enough to say what needs to be said. Then there is Lance Manion. Writing what others won’t simply because there was no need for it to have been written in the first place. This is his fourth collection of short stories and frankly we’re just as surprised as anyone that he is continuing to write them. But here it is. It helps if you have a good imagination. That’s not to imply that we think if you don’t enjoy it then you don’t have a good imagination. It’s certainly not a litmus test for creativity. All we’re saying is that it doesn’t hurt if you’re a little off. If you’re looking for us to try and talk you into downloading a free book than I think you’ve clearly overestimated our interest in your reading it.
But having said that, if you’ve already invested this much time in reading the description what’s the worst that could happen if you gave it a shot? Exactly.
You’ve been warned.

My Thoughts

Homo-Saywhaticus was hilarious. It was a bunch of short stories, more like blog posts. It jumped from one topic to another and in no specific order. Sure there was some “posts” that I was put off about and some that were vulgar, but it didn’t stop me from reading the rest. It was a very quick read and the type of book that you could put down and come back to later or even a few days later and not worry about forgetting what you had read. Overall, a quick and funny read.

If you enjoy learning more of nurses, the nursing career during the 1900′s, than “Call Nurse Millie” is the book for you. If you watch the TV series on PBS,”Call the Midwife”and enjoy it than you will enjoy “Call Nurse Millie”with a few twists and turns included.
BOOK DESCRIPTION (FROM AMAZON)

The debut book from Pubslush Press: for every book sold, a children’s book will be donated to a child in need. Imagine what your life would be like if you laughed through all the mayhem? Biracial and bicoastal, Berlinski spent her childhood flying between the dysfunctional families of her divorced parents, always feeling like an outsider. Fortunately, she never lost her sense of humor, which is apparent on every page of her debut essay collection, a riotous and revealing exposé of the new normal and the consequences of too much air travel, cultural diversity, and conflicting and conflicted parents. With an open heart, she recounts her somewhat misspent youth and a wildly exciting (though equally torturous) love affair with the guy of her dreams, eventually leaving it all to start again abroad. She’s Carrie Bradshaw reimagined as a third grade teacher in Brooklyn with zero interest in Manolo Blahnik. She’s a tough New Yorker with a tender twist of California sunshine whose journey will be oddly familiar and utterly unique to anyone who’s ever believed that love would save them – if not with this guy, then maybe with the next. As her grandfather once said, “Well, it may not be the party you hoped for, but since we’re here, we might as well dance.” So now she lives in Spain and, despite everything, continues to dance through this messy, magnificent life. Say yes to your mess.

MY THOUGHTS

A BEAUTIFUL MESS is a coming of age story. Ali is a biracial young woman trying to find out where to fit in, not only in life, but in her family as well. She is the only daughter from her parents, but she also has 1/2 brothers and sisters from both of her divorced parents. Ali lets us into her life by using humor to tell her stories. We hear stories of family, ex-boyfriends and much more. I thought this was a good story and would recommend. This book was received for the purpose of an honest review.
